Duane Derl Ross, known lovingly by many as Dad, “D”, Bear, Uncle D, and Pop, peacefully passed away on January 27, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on February 23, 1960, Duane dedicated over 35 years to serving as an employee of the Ithaca City, where his commitment and work ethic were highly regarded.
Duane was a proud graduate of Cortland High School, class of 1978. His love for his family and friends was evident in everything he did. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that touched the lives of many.
He is survived by his mother, Doris Ward; his children, Patricia Hammond, Andrew Hammond (Antonio), Russell Hammond (Kimberly), David Hammond Jr (Jess), and Collin Hammond; his brother, David; his sister, Diane; and his grandchildren, Lianna Gentz, Mark Southworth (Adrianne), Joseph Southworth, Evan Ames, Zakary Hammond, Jakob Hammond, Amelia Hammond, Jaycee Hammond, Duane Hammond, Dakota Hammond, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who cherished him dearly.
Duane was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he loved.
The family will host a celebration of Duane's life at a later date.
