Duane E. Zephirin, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, in West Allis, Wisconsin. Born on August 29, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Duane's legacy spans over nine decades filled with love, service, and laughter.
Duane began his notable career on April 16, 1960, with the City of West Allis Police Department, where he dedicated himself to protecting and serving his community until his retirement on June 19, 1989. His commitment to service extended beyond law enforcement as he later worked as a courteous shuttle driver for Wilde Toyota, sharing his warmth and humor with all he encountered.
A proud veteran, Duane served in the United States Navy, an experience that instilled in him values of honor and duty. He carried these values into his personal life, where he became a beloved figure among family and friends. Duane was known for his great sense of humor and loved to share jokes, creating lasting memories filled with joy and laughter.
An avid animal lover, Duane had a special fondness for dogs, reflecting his compassionate nature. He cherished the outdoors and found joy in hunting and fishing, activities that brought him peace and fulfillment. Together with his beloved wife, Lois Marie (Grow), Duane enjoyed playing cards, creating moments of joy and connection.
Duane's commitment to faith was evident in his long-standing membership at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, where he found community and strength. His family remembers him fondly, highlighting his role as a wonderful husband and a beloved father. Duane is survived by his wife, Lois, and their children: Kim (Jim) Baake, Mark (Jackie) Zephirin, Mary (Timothy) Jacobs, Sharon (Douglas) Barilla, Linda (David) Swenson, Kathleen (Joseph) Menter, Thomas (Heidi) Moore, and John (Molly Quirk) Moore. He further leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry his spirit in their hearts.
Duane is preceded in death by his sister, Darlene Dieke, who welcomed him with open arms in the eternal realm.
The memory of Duane E. Zephirin will forever shine brightly in the lives he touched. Family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him will gather to celebrate his life during a Memorial Gathering at Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral and Cremation Mission Hills Chapel in Franklin, Wisconsin, on March 12, 2025, from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. In honoring Duane, we reflect on a life well-lived, a heart devoted to service, and the love he shared with those around him.
