This job does not get any easier when it comes to losing a resident. We know pretty much when they are going down for the count. But it sure doesn't make it any easier. There are those you just can not help but grow a bond with them. Your personalities just click. For me Dubbie was one of those special residents. I started working with him when I was doing restorative therapy. He was always my first of the day if the weather permitted. He loved walking outside. We would walk around the whole nursing home. Dubbie would pick flowers to give away when we came back inside. We talked about the weather, birds, the flowers. When the flowers all died out we would pick weeds and leaves he could still make them look pretty! He told me when he was a boy he always picked flowers for his mom. Dubbie was the most perfect gentleman. He was always the first to get a lady a chair. Never let you walk on the outside side of a sidewalk or road. Always had to open the door or hold the door for the ladies. My my where has that gone? Dubbie always participated in every activity that was offered up until hes last couple of months, then he just got to tired. He still always had a smile on his face for you. He loved having children come visit the unit. He will be sorely missed. But I know he is rejoicing with his God and his wife that went before him. From what I know of Dubbie he truly had a good life, a full life. He has three sons that he was very proud of. We pray for them in this time of such lose. Your friend Carol Roberts.
