Duke Bare, 50, of Meadowview, VA passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Born April 8, 1974 in Abingdon, VA to Wade (Pappy) Bare and BJ Bare. Duke was most known for his love of racing his #52 black race car and winning many races and championships at several different tracks. He enjoyed being a mentor to other drivers and giving all sorts of racing advice! He impacted many lives through his racing journey of 32 years not only here in Virginia, but extending to Tennessee, North and South Carolina. However, his home track was Wythe Raceway. At Wythe he met some lifelong friends, one who has remained a special part of his life, Fred Brown. There are so many others worth mentioning, just too many to count. Each one just as special!
Duke was preceded in death by his grandparents and brother, Wade M Bare. Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Erica (Jacob) Medley and Ali (Austin) Crosswhite; step children, Hannah Godwin and Bethaney (Denton) Hilt; twelve grandchildren, Emma, Lathen, Waylon, Cali, Sawyer, Blu, Maddox, Canaan, Natalie, Brody, Reece, and Finn; his girlfriend of 17 years, Pie Short; three sisters, Alice Norris, April (Doug) Dutton and Sandy (Danny) Calloway; his many nieces, nephews and best friend, Ravis Stoots.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Farris Funeral Services Main Street Chapel from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Graveside services will be private.
Pallbearers will be Steve Skeen, Cody Dutton, Keith Griffitts, Dale Hancock, Jeff Doss, Andy Joliffe and Roby Orr. Honorary pallbearers will be Ravis Stoots, Doug Dutton and his special friends and family.
The family asks that you wear your favorite Duke Bare/black t-shirt and jeans.
