Dustin Obituary
With great sorrow and heavy hearts, the Hand and Horvath families announce the passing of Dustin Cole Hand, 35, on June 2, 2023.
Dustin was born on July 6, 1987 to Fred Hand and Laurie Horvath in Houston, TX. He graduated from Lawrence E. Elkins High School in 2006, a standout athlete in baseball and football. Dustin went on to attend Sam Houston State University and Penn State University, where he studied criminal justice.
Dustin had a huge personality and an ability to take over any room. His humor was unmatched, but his heart was even greater. At his best, he was able to make a friend out of anyone he came across.
Dustin was incredibly passionate about his work as a peer recovery coach at BRC Healthcare. He excelled in the kind-hearted nature this work required, earning the respect of everyone around him. Dustin made a lasting impression on the hearts of so many, always putting others' struggles before his own.
The highlight of Dustin's life was the birth of his son, Grayson, on December 2, 2019. His joy of fatherhood was undeniable and was such a blessing for everyone around him to witness. Grayson filled Dustin's heart with hope and motivated him to be the best version of himself.
Dustin is survived by his mother, Laurie Horvath, his father, Fred Hand, his stepfather, Les Horvath, his stepmother, Cherie Hand, his siblings, Andrew Hand, Garrett Horvath, Michelle Hand, and Matthew Hand, and his son, Grayson Gassiott-Hand, and Grayson's mother, Sarah Gassiott. He will be greatly missed by his friends, coworkers, and extended family. Dustin will forever be remembered and deeply cherished by all.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at the Sugar Land Mortuary, 1818 Eldridge Rd, Sugar Land, TX, on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 12:00 PM. Please visit the online guestbook for Dustin at www.SLMortuary.com.

I know a lot of good people and Dustin was and is at the top of that list. He changed the lives of many good people; better people after the privilege of meeting him. My heart breaks every time I think of the world without him. Until we meet again.
