Dr. Dutchie S. Riggsby, 85, of Columbus, Georgia (originally of Montgomery, AL) widow of Dr. Ernest D. Riggsby passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a determined battle with cancer.
She retired after a fulfilling career as a professor at Columbus State University. She was awarded the status of professor emeritus and served previously as an elementary teacher in Troy, AL. She was proud of her graduation from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, AL and was inducted in the school Hall of Fame (1993). She was a graduate of Troy State University, Troy, AL and Auburn University, Auburn, AL. She was dedicated to her professional service including more than 30 years with Georgia Educational Technology Consortium, as well as United States Civil Air Patrol, and community service at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lapine, AL. She was the oldest daughter of Mack and Celia Sellers of Montgomery, AL.
She is survived by her daughter, Lyn Riggsby-Gonzalez and husband Oscar Gonzalez, grandsons Eli and Seth Gonzalez, sisters Pat Sellers Connell and Debbie Sellers Starr and husband Rob, nephews Jay and Buddy Connell, and nieces Cindy Connell and Haley Starr, godchildren Chris and Mark Carlisle, and other family members and friends.
