Dwain Dickey of Rockport, Texas, formerly of Henrietta, passed away on June 8, 2025. Born on March 21, 1942, in Deer Creek, Texas, Robbie Dwain Dickey was the son of G.V. “Doc” and Gwendolyn Dickey. He graduated from Midway High School, served in the National Guard, and earned his degree from Midwestern State University. He married Melanie McClister Hilburn, and together they raised two daughters. Dwain worked for many years in the banking industry and retired from First National Bank of Henrietta. He never met a stranger and was rarely seen without a huge grin. Besides backing into boulders on vacation, he had a special talent for talking his way out of speeding tickets. It was something the we came to expect on just about every vacation or road trip. He was always highly pleased with himself when he got back in the car after being pulled over. Despite being stopped countless times, we are not sure he ever actually received a citation. He loved to tease and prank the people he loved, often laughing so hard he'd rub his hands together with pure joy. That laugh was unforgettable. Dwain was the kind of man who helped others quietly, without needing credit. Whether it was helping someone go to college, stepping in to support a family about to lose their home, or just showing up when someone needed him, he did it out of kindness and character, not for recognition. He often said he was going to “learn” his daughters how to play basketball, or whatever else he felt like teaching that day. He wasn’t perfect, but he was good, and funny, and decent. And that’s how his family and friends will remember him. In 2005 he married Lola Dickey and they started their lives in Rockport, Texas. Dwain and Lola enjoyed their adventures together until his final days.

Dwain was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Gay Holder and Kay Brookshire. He is survived by his wife, Lola Dickey of Rockport, Texas; his daughters, Robin Johnson of Graham, Texas, and Rachel Dickey of Henrietta; his sister, Linda Rhodes of Bluegrove; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four nephews, and two nieces. A memorial potluck or dinner will be planned at a later date to celebrate his life and share memories. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Clay County Animal Shelter.
