Dwayne Allen Bates, 40, of Topeka, passed away Monday, October 6, 2025.
He was born November 14, 1984, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Michael W. and Diana L. (Woodall) Bates. He was a 2006 graduate of Seaman High School.
Survivors include his parents, Michael and Diana Bates of Topeka, two brothers, Derrick (Diane) Bates of Olathe, KS and Dustin Bates of Shawnee, KS; his nephews, Daxon and Delton Bates; and aunts Bobbie Broadbent and Alana Atkins and several cousins.
He was a member of the Pleasant Hill 4-H Club.
Dwayne will be remembered for his deep love for family, cherishing moments spent with his brothers and being an enthusiastic supporter at his nephew's sporting events. He took great joy in working with Dustin in the shop. He loved the lake and riding around in the boat. Some of his favorite things were waiting on the mailman to deliver the mail each day, handing out candy to trick-or-treaters and quoting Kevin in his favorite movie Home Alone. His warmth was evident in that he never knew a stranger and welcomed all with a friendly "Hi!" Dwayne's kindness and love for people enriched the lives of many. Giving and receiving hugs was his specialty and there was nothing like a Dwayne smile. He leaves behind cherished memories that will be held dear by all who knew him.
A visitation of family and friends will be from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Monday, October 13, 2025, at Parker Price & Davidson Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka.
A funeral ceremony will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Sunrise Optimist Club Building, 720 NW 50th Street, Topeka, KS. Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka, KS.
