With sadness, we announce the passing of Dwayne Ray Mathis. His earthly journey ended on March 30th, 2025 in Tucson, Arizona.
Dwayne was born in Tampa, Florida to parents Grady Ray Mathis and Blanche Oselina Mathis. During his childhood and throughout his high school years, he was very athletic. He played football, baseball, ran track, participated in gymnastics, karate, and judo. After he graduated, he joined the Army and served for eight years. Along with his other assigned duties in the Army, he was a karate and judo instructor to the Army servicemen. He was also very tech savvy - knowledge and skills he learned while in the Army, college, and from his employers. He had a great sense of humor and liked to tease family and friends and tell funny stories and jokes.
Dwayne was predeceased by his mother, Blanche O. Mathis, his father, Grady R. Mathis, stepmother, Jonnye R. Mathis, and brothers, Craig and Chad Mathis. He is survived by his four sisters, Honey Sanchez, Pastor Anita Joe, Sonya King, and Kathy Brent, one brother, Johnathon Mathis, a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, a great great niece, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and his brothers and sisters in Christ.
We know he is absent from the body; we are joyful he is present with the Lord. Love you, Miss you!! Amen.
