Dwight Adkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, DeVore Chapel on Mar. 11, 2026.
Dwight David Adkins, age 72, of Galena, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, surrounded by family and love.

Born in West Virginia, Dwight lived a life rooted in loyalty, generosity, and showing up for others-often before they even knew they needed help. He found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially when fishing, golfing, bowling, playing softball or watching Nascar. Whether it was a quiet day by the water, time on the course, or race day discussions, these were moments that brought him peace and happiness.

Dwight had a natural way of offering guidance and support, especially to "the younger generation." He never hesitated to step in as a bonus dad for the day, sharing advice, encouragement, and a steady presence to anyone who needed it. His heart was always open, and his wisdom was freely given.

Above all else, Dwight cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to Jan Adkins, a loving father to Carrie, and an adoring grandfather to Kinley. There was not a single day that went by without him talking about-or talking to-Kinley, who he referred to as his Little Buddy. She was his pride, his joy, and his favorite topic of conversation. Dwight was also Carrie's emergency contact for almost everything-and more importantly, the first one to come running, even when help hadn't yet been asked for. He was the voice of reason, the safe place to land, and our eternal best friend. His love always showed up in action, reliability, and unwavering support.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Jan Adkins; his daughter, Carrie (Alan Hunt); and his granddaughter, Kinley, who will forever carry his love and countless memories with her.

Those who cared about him find comfort in knowing that Dwight is now in heaven with his cousin Gary, speeding down the road to see who can reach his Aunt Jewell's house first-engines roaring, laughter loud, and competition friendly, just the way he would want it.

Dwight will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his kindness, his guidance, his readiness to help, and the immeasurable love he gave so freely to those closest to him.

Friends may call on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. - 11:30 A.M. with a Funeral Service starting at 11:30 A.M. at Snyder Funeral Homes, DeVore Chapel, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074. Graveside services will follow at Galena Cemetery, Galena, Ohio. Pastor Wayne Booth officiating.
