On Monday, March 4, 2024, Dwight Wayne Fleming, 75, of Houston, MS went to be with his Heavenly Father.
Services will be held Thursday, March 7, at 11:00 at Houston First Methodist Church, Houston, MS, with Rev. David Upshaw officiating. A time of visitation will be held before the service at 9:30. Burial will follow the church service at Chickasaw Memorial Gardens, Houston, MS. Houston Funeral Home is honored to serve the Fleming family.
Mr. Fleming was born on April 30, 1948, to the late Marvin Fleming and Madge Blissard Fleming, of Thorn, MS. He was a lifetime resident of Houston, MS, residing in the Thorn community. He was a 1968 graduate of Houston High School and went on to Delta State University on a basketball scholarship. Pretty soon the desire to be a farmer replaced playing basketball and he married Barbara Sue Weaver and began their life together. He was a farmer for many years and the love of land, crops and tractors was always close to heart. He was a gifted handyman who could fix anything and he loved tinkering and working on anything and everything. His farming days transitioned into a time as County Supervisor for Chickasaw County, then as a local appliance store owner, and also as Manager at Agriliance. In retirement he spent many years camping with family and dear friends and attending his grandchildren's activities. He was an avid fan of Mississippi State sports. Additionally, he was a Master Mason, Houston Lodge #67, and Member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He will be remembered for being a devoted husband and father, and grandfather. His greatest joy was his family and spending time with his five grandchildren. He had wonderful lifelong friendships and although he was a quiet man, he had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing cards, tending to his garden, and helping family in any way he could. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and especially the nurses and physicians in the Critical Care Unit. He is preceded in death by his parents.
His is survived by his wife – Barbara Sue Weaver Fleming; children – Brad (Heather) Fleming, Mary Jon (Juston) Rea, and Wade (Jessica) Fleming; grandchildren – Cassidy (Colby) Sanders, Grant Fleming, Catherine Fleming, Rhett Fleming, and John Hardin Fleming; brother – Charles (Trish) Fleming.
Pallbearers will be Grant Fleming, Rhett Fleming, Kevin Herbst, Hugh Pettit, Bill Blissard, Andy Caldwell, Jim Blissard and Colby Sanders.
Memorials may be made to Houston First Methodist Church.
