Dwight Stein of Forestport, NY passed away on August 9,2025 at the age of 78.
He was born in Plainfield, NJ January 1, 1947. Dwight lived in the Trenton/Ewing area for 60 years prior to moving to the Adirondacks to live with his daughter and son in law. After graduating from Trenton Central High school class of 1965, Dwight enlisted into the United States Navy where he served on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La CVA 38 from 1965-1968 and served in the US Naval reserve until 1971.
He then entered the Trenton Police academy and went on to serve as a Police officer in the City of Trenton. He served for 20 years before retiring due to a job related injury. At the time of his retirement he was serving as second vice president of PBA local #11. During his career he was a three-time recipient of the departmental Valor Award. He was honored with the Broad Street National Bank Distinguished Service Award for bravery above and beyond the call of duty, National Westminster Bank Award for excellent performance and outstanding contributions, and the NJS PBA meritorious service award for exceptional police service.
He was a lifetime member of the Trenton PBA local #11 and was awarded a silver life card at retirement, a member of the NJ retired police & fire association Mercer Co. Local #12, the American legion C.J. Love post 406 of Boonville NY, a lifetime member of the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La reunion association.
He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Trenton, NJ for over 60 years and served as a deacon & an elder on the Session. Prior to moving to NY, he donated his time for six years as church security officer for Sunday services. He was a loyal Eagles (go birds!) & Phillies phan ever since his father and uncle took him to see his first MLB game at Connie Mack stadium in 1957.
Dwight contributed to several of his favorite charities: Disabled American Veterans,
Wounded Warrior Project, The Humane Society of the US, the North Shore Animal League of NY for the rescue of cats & dogs, and to Salesian Missions feed the children program.
Son of the late Mary & Joseph Stein; predeceased by his sister Patricia Lynn Stein and his wife Rita Helene (Marks) Stein; He is survived by his daughter Rachelle (Bradley) Biddulph and husband Howard, 4 children Amanda Maeve, Ryan & fiance Katarina Adams, Kelseylynn & Kevin, 1 great granddaughter Nora Elizabeth; his son Scott W. Stein and his wife Anne (McNelly) Stein, grandchildren Alexander J. Stein & MacKenzie E. Stein; and his daughter Meggin L. (Stein) Christiansen her husband Karl; 5 grandchildren Rita H. Stein & fiance Joshua Almeida, Karl A. Christiansen, Abigale Mae Christiansen, Clayton J. Christiansen, & Zoë M. Christiansen.
Visitation for Dwight will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 9:30-11:30am at Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ 08618. A brief funeral service will be held at 11:30am at the funeral home, followed by burial at Ewing cemetery, 78 Scotch Rd. Trenton, NJ 08628.
