Dylan Shelton

On Ground Hog Day of 2003, God sent a special blessing into our lives. Dylan was born to Charleen Weddle and James Shelton. Dylan joined his family with his two older brothers, James Weddle and Steven Weddle. His older sister, Atalia, lived apart with another mom. His father, James Shelton, parted ways with Dylan's mom shortly after Dylan was born. Two years and two days after Dylan's birth, Justin Axl Cox also joined the family. For most of his life Dylan lived in Sheridan, Wyoming except for 2008 when the family ran away to Casper for a year. Tia and Destiny, who also live in Sheridan, are two cousins who were very special to Dylan.
Dylan and his brothers often spent time with Grandpa Douglas Shelton and Grandma Peggy. A needlepoint Christmas stocking was hung with care by their fireplace each holiday. Who needs' SANTA when you got Grandma and Papa.
It was Dylan's job in life to bring joy and laughter to others. At a young age at the dinner table the bowl of spaghetti became his hat. Birthday cakes were meant to be eaten as well as worn. He had a magical way of filling our hearts with fond memories to cherish for the rest of our lives.
Dylan often managed to catch a ride when his grandparents took trips. One of his favorite trips was when he got to play with his cousin Kaitlyn Donovan in Pennsylvania. There were a couple water parks along the way that Dylan made a splash in. He also enjoyed trips to Utah to spend time with Grandpa Rodger Fleener. Somehow Grandpa Rodger got Dylan hooked on fishing. Uncle Jack also had a hand in Dylan's indoctrination to fishing. It did not take very long for Calvin Lake to become Dylan's favorite place in the whole world.
Dylan took a very sad journey to Luverne Minnesota to bid a final farewell to his great grandmother, Irene Shelton. He was only 8 years old at that time, but suited up to show his respect. Grandma Peggy became ill and required the use of a wheelchair. Dylan helped Papa build a wheelchair ramp so Peggy could come home from the hospitals. Eventually, Dylan and rest of us had to bid farewell to Peggy. Dylan went along with Papa to Billings to give thanks to care providers there as well as return all of the rented medical equipment.
As they got to the west end of Billings Montana Dylan yelled out: "There is the Harley dealer Papa. YOU CAN GO NOW!"
Dylan knew that Papa had to forsake all motorcycles due to Peggy's fear of them. But now, Dylan knew that Papa had to find a reason to continue on his life's journey.
Annabelle was a special young lady that came into the last year of Dylan's life. He encouraged her to change tears into laughter. She was a precious little girl who stole his heart. Unfortunate circumstances arose and Dylan had to let her go on in her life without him. This greatly saddened Dylan.
All those who were close to him and loved Dylan were deeply saddened when Meth began to steal him from all of us. We were helpless as the grip of this evil monster sunk its claws deeper and deeper into his soul. Now the wicked monster has stolen him from us.
Dylan's journey is now over. The Dylan who I will always cherish would want all of us to continue on our journey. He would want our tears to evaporate as we cling onto those precious moments when he brought joy and laughter into our lives.
A public viewing will begin at 9:00 AM Saturday March 2, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM. Pastor Phil Wold will be officiating. There will be a reception following the service at Trinity Lutheran Church.
