E. Thomas Acton, age 82, of Neenah peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Friday February 24, 2023. Tom was born on March 24, 1940 in Queens New York, son of the late Frank and Mary Ellen (Borneman) Acton.
Tom was a very talented and accomplished man on many fronts, who was fortunate to be the esteemed patriarch of an extensive loving family.
Tom started his engineering career with American Can in 1961, where he met his lovely wife, Elnore. He worked for Banta, Lenox Candles, Curwood, and ultimately retired from his role as Chief Industrial Engineer at Bemis, Inc.
He was the most patient, well-rounded man you could ever meet. He doted over and loved his wife Elnore dearly. He was a gifted singer who loved everything about music, from barbershop quartets, to the Dukes of Dixieland, and of course, The Beatles. He was a captivating storyteller and jokester. At the same time he was a very observant and humble gentleman. He was quite softspoken but when he spoke everybody listened. Tom was an avid reader and acquired a wide breadth of knowledge. He could answer any question he was presented with. Tom was always jovial and happy. He frequently passed the time by sitting with his wife in their sunroom completing puzzles and crosswords and watching the wildlife in their beautiful wooded yard. He was an enthusiastic spectator of golf, basketball and football. He and his wife grew together as one over the years, and often completed each other's sentences and stories.
Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elnore; his children: Tim (Michelle) Acton; Steven (Lisa) Acton; Jim Acton; Catherine (Joey) Chancellor; and Elizabeth (Eric) Nilson; his grandchildren: Timmy, Turner and Tori Acton; Alycia (Jake) Tetzlaff, Jake and Abby Acton; Trewyn and Mallory Acton; Shalesa, Adara and Carston Chancellor; Eva and Ethan Nilson; and a great-grandson Watson Tetzlaff. Tom is further survived by his brother Frank (June) Acton; and Elnore's siblings, Robert (Sandra) Froze; Richard (Debra) Froze; Michael (Janet) Froze; Patrick (John) Froze and Mary Beth (Bruce) Ellis. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday March 3, 2023 at the Kessler-Fahrenkrug Funeral Home 304 S. Commercial St., Neenah. Gathering of family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services. A memorial is being established.
The family would like to thank the Dr.'s, nurses and staff of Theda Care Oncology Dept., as well as Theda Care at Home and Hospice for all of the care given to Tom.
