Earl Fredrick Bossaller, Jr was born July 10, 1944, in Inglewood, California to Earl and Roberta (Everett) Bossaller. He passed peacefully, with family by his side, on June 7, 2025, in
Huntsville, Alabama.
It was established early on in Earl's life his ability to problem solve and think critically. He possessed the intellect, as a young boy, to design and build intricate communication devices out of supplies he would find lying around the house. This knowledge and passion for technology would continue to flourish throughout his childhood and into his adult life.
After graduating Leuzinger High School in 1962, Earl joined the United States Air Force in 1965 and served as an Electronic warfare repairman where he worked on communication and navigation systems. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War era. He served with distinction, attaining the rank of Sergeant, before being honorably discharged in 1969.
Earl's civilian career began at Ocean Applied Research (OAR) in San Diego, Ca in 1980. It was here that OAR was known for their radio direction finding products which were popular with fishermen, security personnel, and radio enthusiasts. As an avid radio enthusiast himself, Earl designed, built, and programmed these devices. In 1995, OAR was bought out by Cubic Corporation in San Diego, and it was here that he worked for many years as a Systems Engineer until his retirement in 2009. He was highly respected and well known in the industry for his expertise and knowledge with the Direction Finding equipment, including the later models which were designed specifically for government use.
Working on computers wasn't just a job for Earl, it was a joy, a passion he lived and breathed. When not on his computer, he enjoyed reading Sci-Fi novels and the Louis L'Amour collection. He also enjoyed doing Sudoku puzzles and had the ability to solve the most difficult ones with great ease. However, it was his passion for line dancing where he met Jeanette, who he fondly referred to as his "Wiffey." They were able to enjoy couple's line dancing for 19 years, until his passing.
He was a loving husband of Jeanette; dear father of John (Tara) Bossaller; stepdad of Bill (Amy) Jacobs, Dustin Jacobs; Dadikins to Stephanie (Howard) Jines; Dear Grandpa of Alexander, Jacob, Johnny and Everett Bossaller; G-Pa to McKhenna and Ghabriell Riese; and Mr. Earl to Flynn and Tessa Jacobs. Butch, as he was lovingly called by his family, was a big brother to Jim (Carole) Bossaller, Kathie (Glenn) Carvin, and John (Claudia) Bossaller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Roberta (Everett) Bossaller.
A celebration of his life will take place on July 19, 2025, at 2:00pm at Community of Christ Church, 7510 Whitesburg Dr.,
Huntsville, Alabama 35802.
