Earl Jones, of Warsaw, Mo. Passed away March 2, 2025, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Mo., where he had lived since August 8, 2024.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 10, 2025 at 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed with a Masonic funeral service at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Kearney, Mo. A full military honors burial service will be held for Earl at 2 p.m. at Lamar Cemetery east of Elmo, Mo.
Earl was born April 27, 1927 to Ovie Raymond Jones and Mary Louise Hutson Jones at the family home out in the country west of Elmo, Mo. in Nodaway County.
Earl met the love of his life Ethelene West in Clarinda, lowa and they married January 1, 1949 in Maryville, Mo. They moved to Kansas City, Mo. Earl got a job as a hi-low driver (for which he won many awards/trophies) for BOP General Motors Auto Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas, he worked there until his retirement in October 1979 with 30 years seniority. To this union four children were born; Linda Mae Jones (Bill) Burris of Holt, Mo.; Earlene Kay Jones Gaupp of Shawnee, Kansas; Lyle Edward Jones (Cheryl Nichols) of Gravois Mills, Mo.; Keith Raymond Jones (Diana) of Lee's Summit, Mo.
Earl joined the Navy right of high school and was called up May 11, 1945 and was sent to the Great Lakes for his boot camp training. He asked for sea duty but went to Anacostia Naval Base across from Washington DC. There he was assigned duty in the Naval Canteen where he learned to shoot pool and drive dignitaries around the base and Washington DC. Earl never met a stranger. He enjoyed sports al of his life. He played basketball at Elmo High School, in Kansas City he coached men's basketball, men's softball, girls fast pitch softball. He bowled for years on Men's bowling teams and co-ed teams. He and his brother, Kenny bought a ski boat and taught us kids how to water ski while camping at the Lake Of the Ozarks where he purchased a lot and built a dock and ramp.He and mom loved playing cards especially pitch. He enjoyed country music, it was nothing for them to have jam sessions in their home with his sister Leota and brother-in-law Lowell and others (neither mom or dad played instruments), they just enjoyed music and entertaining. Also, it was nothing for him to call mom on a Friday morning and let her know they were going to Nashville, Tennessee to the Grand 'Ol Opry when he got off work that day.
Earl was preceded in death by: Ethelene Jones, wife of 67 years; his parents; her parents; an infant sister, Luella Mae Jones; Bonnie Jones, sister-in-law; Carrie Maude Jones, sister; Clint R. Burris, grandson; Eli Adrain Yebra, great-great-grandson; grandson-in-law Dennis Hartle; and son-in-law, Gene Gaupp.
Survivors include; his four children; Karl Kenneth Jones, brother of Kansas City, Mo.; Leota Evelyn Jones Gust, sister (Lowell), of Kansas City, Mo.; Carolyn Sue Jones Akins sister (Max), of Maryville, Mo.; Ashley Lyn Martin, great-granddaughter (raised partially by Earl/Ethelene) of Lincoln, Mo.; Granddaughters: Tonya Lyn Burris Hartle of Warsaw, Mo. Shila Kay Faries (John) of Parker, Colorado Lindsay Ann Allen (Sean), of Morrison, Colorado Serena Ann Utter (Bobby), of Kansas City, Mo. Tina Louise Watters (Ed), of Kansas City, Mo. Jennifer Diana Jones, of Toluca Lake, California Stacy Diana Jones, of Lee's Summit, Mo. Grandsons: Kyle Edward Jones (Stephanie), of Kansas City, Mo. Kevin Keith Jones, (Michelle), of Loch Lloyd, Mo. Jeromy Keith Jones (Jami) of Grain Valley, Mo. 20 Great-grandchildren: Ashley, Ella, Macie, Remington, Devin, Zachary, Trevor, Austyn, Lukas, Kelcie, Matthew, Cayleb, Teagan, Tyler, Coby, Sam, Madelyn, Luke, Kayson, Cooper, 7 great great grandchildren, and many nieces nephews, and friends.
