Virgil Solomon Scott Jr., 80, of Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away on August 21, 2025.

Born on April 2, 1945, in Jersey City, NJ, Virgil was fostered by Rose (Werbacher) and Charles S. Mester in Staten Island, NY, before moving to Atchison, KS, for his kindergarten year with Charles and Iris Schaffer and their daughter, Lorena (Schaffer) Herod. At age six, Virgil was cared for by his loving grandparents, Mary (Baker) Scott Schaffer and Oscar Schaffer, in Marceline, MO, where he graduated from Marceline High School in 1964 and met his high school sweetheart, Connie Kay Adams. They married on June 1, 1968, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Marceline.

Virgil proudly served six years in the Air Force Reserves. During his 34-year career with Hallmark, he advanced from stock boy to Engineering Technician, specializing in manufacturing research and prototype development until his retirement.

For more than 50 years, Virgil and Connie made their home in Excelsior Springs, where they raised their two children. Deeply involved in Jenny and Jeff's activities, Virgil especially enjoyed his years as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster. Family vacations often meant loading into the truck and camper, with Virgil driving them across the country. His travels took them to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, and Europe.

Virgil never met a stranger-he was always ready for a conversation, loved taking the road less traveled, and had a particular fondness for ice cream. He treasured time with friends and family, adored his grandsons, and devoted himself to caring for Connie, the love of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Solomon Scott, Sr.; brother, Milton Donald Scott; sister, Martha Ann (Scott) Main; niece, Stephanie Ann (Main) Herrick; nephew, Mark Schwery; and granddaughters, Lulu Abigale Dooley and Savannah June Dooley.

Virgil is survived by his wife of 57 years, Connie; children, Jennifer (Michael) Dooley of Overland Park, KS, and Jeffrey (Aimee) Scott of Kansas City, MO; grandsons, Gordon Virgil Dooley and Elliot Scott; a sister, Shirley (Allen) Schwery; a brother, Charles (Vera) Scott; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Imagination Library or to a charity of your choice in Virgil's memory.
