Earl Walter Kurre, 98, of Wheeling, passed away at his home on Friday, November 22, 2024.
He was born at home in Wheeling, WV, on August 14, 1926, son of the late Fredrick and Lucy McFarland Kurre.
Earl was a graduate of WVU, affiliated with Third Presbyterian Church, South Wheeling for many years, a member of American Legion Post 1 in Wheeling, past president of WV Public Health Association, past little league coach, past deacon at Stone Presbyterian Church, retired as Chief Administrator of the Ohio County Health Department, and he was a WWII Navy Veteran in the Pacific - Radio Man 1st Class. He was an avid golfer, bowler, tennis player, gardener and wood worker. Earl never said an unkind word about anyone. He was peaceful, easy going, vibrant and full of life until the day he died.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor "Jean" Leach. He and Jean were married 68 years and were a perfect example of what a marriage should be. Also preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Pullen and by his brother, Louis Kurre.
Surviving are his sons, Thomas E. (Jeri) Kurre of Wheeling, WV, and James A. (Debra) Kurre of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren, Steven T. (Jessica) Kurre, Ian J. (Sara) Kurre, Sara R. (Austin) Kull, Elizabeth S. (William) Kurre Wirt; great grandchildren, Jackson, Miles and Avery Kurre, Trey and Ty Kull; two nieces, two nephews and his beloved dog, Jack.
Viewing will take place at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-242-2311) on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 2-6 pm and on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, from 10 am until time of service at 11 am with Rev. Christina Francis officiating, at Stone Presbyterian Church in Wheeling. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery where Moundsville Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military services.
