today we celebrate the life of a remarkable man, a father, a stepfather, a grandfather, and a friend. Earl Lee Smith lived a life that was anything but ordinary. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Earl Lee Smith was born to the parents Melinda Martin Smith and Joseph Lee Smith Senior in Little Rock Arkansas on April 14th 1950.
He leaves behind his wife and childrens grandchildren and great-grandchildren and although he only completed his education up to the 11th grade, he gained wisdom and knowledge from life itself. His journey was marked by hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance.
As a young man, Earl Lee Smith bravely served in the Vietnam War, where he earned the Purple Heart and Combat Medal. These honors spoke to the courage and dedication he had for his country, even though the war would forever leave an indelible mark on him. When he returned home, he didnt dwell on the past but rather focused on moving forward, building a life and a family
He was a proud father, and nothing was more important to him than his family. He may have been married seven times, but his love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren never wavered. He had a unique way of connecting with each of them, offering guidance when needed and always telling them exactly what he thoughtsometimes with a side of humor and wit.
Earl Smith worked as a construction worker for 22 years and as a mechanic. He was a man who valued hard work and skill, and there wasnt much he couldnt fix with his hands. Yet, despite his expertise, it was his ability to fix hearts that left the greatest impact. He would lend a hand to anyone in need, whether they were family, friends, or even strangers.
He had his flaws, of course, but it never defined him. He was a man who owned up to his mistakes and was open about them. He was always honest, sometimes bluntly so, but that was just part of who he was. His words may have been tough, but his intentions were always rooted in love and care.
And of course, we cannot forget his love for sweet potato pie and banana pudding. Simple pleasures, but they reflected the kind of man he wassomeone who enjoyed the little things in life and found joy in the company of others.
Earl Smith lived his life with great humor, honesty, and heart. Though he may no longer be with us physically, his legacy will live on through the lessons he taught, the stories we share, and the love he left behind. May we all carry a piece of his spirit with us, remembering that its not how we start, but how we live and love that truly matters.
