Ebrahim Jalali passed away peacefully on 17 July, 2025 in
Brookline, MA. Ebrahim was born in Amol, Iran on 5 May 1929. After urging his father to allow him to go to grade school, he eventually received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tehran University in 1952, and his Master of Science in 1961. In 1956, he took a 16-hour flight from Tehran to Amsterdam, where he attended the International Training Center for Aerial Survey, founded by the former Netherlands Prime Minister Schermerhorn, in Delft, Netherlands until 1957. He then returned to Iran, started his own company, got married, and had his first daughter, Padideh. The family then moved to the U.S. in 1964, where his second daughter, Mitcheka, was later born in Ames, Iowa. From Iowa State University, he received his Master of Science in Physics in 1968 and proudly received his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering in 1969. Ebrahim then returned to Iran, the country he loved, to serve his country. He served as professor at a number of universities, was the head of a Science College, and was the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. He continued to teach in retirement, in addition to gardening, making wine and jam, cooking, and mentoring local children. In his later years, he moved back to the U.S. to be closer to his daughters. Ebrahim was a loving, supportive father who adored his daughters. He was always upbeat and positive, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood, kind and generous to his loved ones and to his community, a constant educator, and innately smart. He was a true Renaissance man: not only a scientist, he often recited poetry and he sang beautifully. Ebrahim is survived by his two loving daughters Padideh and Mitcheka Jalali. He is predeceased by his beloved parents Saeed Ali Mohammad Jalali-Mossallam and Aghabji Jalali; and by his beloved sister Sakeeneh Jalali and loving brothers Aghamehdi, Ghassem, GholamHassan, and Hadi. Loving uncle of Ali, Fereydoon, Seemeen, Mohsen, and Farhad; and Nahid, Reza, Nasrin, Naseem, Javad, and Jalal; and Ezat, Asad, Nosrat, and Hamid; and Yousef and Aref. Also, uncle to several grand nieces and nephews. Ebrahim (Daddy) will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live in our hearts and souls forever. As he said, love never ends.
