Edward M. "Ed" Lero, 69, of St. Paul, passed away at 11:40 a.m., Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Diversicare of Chanute.

He was born on February 4, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri to Norbert E. and Norene M. (Beller) Lero. Ed grew up in Shawnee, Kansas and spent his summers and weekends visiting the Beller Farm in St. Paul. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North West High School in 1975 and worked as a handy man during those years. He then attended Salina Vo-Tech and received a certificate as a diesel mechanic. He worked part-time for Ryder Truck while he was attending school and after graduation worked full time for Ryder Truck for 39 years and 3 months before retiring due to health.

He and Shirlee P. "Patty" Bobin were married on March 3, 1977 in Olathe, Kansas. She survives of the home.

He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church at St. Paul. Ed enjoyed raising horses, hunting and anything outdoors.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Walter Lero of Walnut; a daughter, Christy Hoerle (Jason) of Walnut; sister, Peggy Lero of Frontenac; brothers, Pat Lero of Kansas City, MO, Leonard "Lenny" Lero (Denyse) of Shawnee, KS and Michael "Mick" Lero (Jan) of Shawnee, KS; grandchildren, Emmagen Lero, Aubree Lero, Riley Lero, Laiton Moore and Avrin Hoerle and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Lero and infant John Lero.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 12, 2026 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie. The rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in St. Paul. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie. Memorials are suggested to The Kansas University Health System Kidney Foundation or to defray expenses. These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 182, Erie, KS 66733.
