Ed Thomson
HUNTINGTON- Garth Edward Thomson, our loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend passed away in the comforts of his home, with his loving wife at his side, on May 27, 2025.
Ed was born in Ephraim, Utah to Garth W Thomson and Carol Hyslop on May 24, 1950. He was welcomed by four older sisters who adored him. To his sisters, he was "Eddie". He graduated from Manti High School.
He had three children with his first wife Cheryl Allred – Chad, Robert, and Denise. They were later divorced. He then married Jeanine Judd on October 24, 1992 and together they had a daughter, Kaitlyn Thomson. As a blended family, he welcomed Justin, Apryl, and Jud and loved them as his own.
Ed was a proud member of the Utah National Guard for 21 years. During that time, he pioneered many national forest roads around the state and was known as the "CAT skinner" for his amazing ability to operate equipment. He was so proud that both of his sons followed in his footsteps and served in the guard as well. He was truly a patriot.
He proudly worked for UP&L / PacifiCorp for 35 years. Most of his career was spent at the Huntington Plant. He had numerous jobs in every department and ended his career as a Maintenance Supervisor. After retiring from the power company, he spent the next decade working for Nielson Construction. He loved that job and running heavy equipment was his joy. His favorite was a D-10 Dozer, of which he was a master. Although he was a CAT man, he learned to love the new Komatsu and took care of it as his own.
Throughout his life he was a farmer. Farming was his joy and he was always happiest in one of his John Deere tractors. After moving to Huntington, he bought a small farm and began a 33-year friendship with his farming neighbors. Ed was a master mechanic and could fix anything. He was so proud to own his own piece of land – it was a life's dream for him.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, son, (Chad Thomson); great-grandson, (Knox Robert Thomson); sisters, Sharon Christensen, Jill Westlund, Jackie Lund; and brother, Greg Thomson.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanine; son, Rob Thomson (Keri); daughter, Denise Gardner (Mark); daughter, Kaitlyn Allred (Wacey); son, Justin Powell; daughter, Apryl Pecolar (Kyle); and son, Jud Powell (Jana); 21 grandchildren, and 13 -great-grandchildren; along with his sisters, Jane Painter and Barbara Rosquist (Fred); and numerous nieces and nephews.
