Gilbertsville

Edward I. Wilson (Ed), 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at his home in Gilbertsville.

He was born on September 12, 1934, in Plainfield, New York, the son of the late Edward and Florence (O'Dell) Wilson.

Ed was a lifelong resident of the Gilbertsville area and dedicated much of his life to serving his community. Ed retired from the Raymond Corporation where he was employed for nearly 30 years first in Morris, NY and then in Greene, NY. After retirement from Raymond, he for many years was employed as a bus driver for the Gilbertsville–Mount Upton Central School, where he was known for his kindness and reliability. A devoted member of the Gilbertsville Baptist Church, Ed played an active role in helping to maintain the church and faithfully supported its mission throughout his life.

His commitment to public service was evident in many ways. Ed was a member of the Gilbertsville Fire Department, where he proudly served as past Chief. He also served as Mayor of Gilbertsville for over 20 years, leaving a lasting impact on the village he loved. Among his many contributions, he helped build the local baseball field, served as a Boy Scout leader, and coached Little League, mentoring countless young people along the way.

In his free time, Ed enjoyed stock car racing and woodworking. Above all, he was known for generously donating his time and talents, staying actively involved in the community, and for his kind, patient, and supportive nature. He especially cherished watching his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and took great pride in his family.

Ed is survived by his children: Joanne (Kevin) Tompkins, Edward I. (Linda) Wilson, Jr., and Scott (Caroline) Wilson; his grandchildren: Jennifer (Dan) Rounds, Allison Pianoforte (Brian), Andrea Pennell (Ryan), Corey Wilson, and Brian Wilson; He is also survived by his great grandchildren: Leah and Grady Rounds, Amelia and Bria Pianoforte, and Hudson Pennell along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sally Ann Wilson, and his three sisters.

Ed will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Gilbertsville community whose lives he touched through his generosity and service.

A celebration of his life is planned for the spring when his family, friends and the community can all join together. Details on the celebration of life will be forthcoming.

Memorial contributions in Ed's name may be made to the Gilbertsville Fire Department P.O. Box 72 Gilbertsville, NY 13776.

The family has entrusted Ed's care to the Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home in Morris. For online condolences to the family visit www.Johnstonfh.com.
