Eddie J. Allison, a cherished family man, respected veteran, and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully from natural causes on October 9, 2024, in Michigan City, IN. Born on May 6, 1935, in Hazelhurst, MS, Eddie's journey through life was marked by his strength, kindness, and integrity.
Eddie's early years were spent in Hazelhurst, where he received his formal education and developed a foundation for the remarkable life he would lead. He proudly served his country in the Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT/E5), a testament to his dedication and leadership. He married the love of his life Billie Rae Beaver on August 15, 1955, at her grandmother's home. After his military service, Eddie's path took his family from California to Michigan City, IN, in 1979, where he would become a respected figure in the community.
In Michigan City, Eddie continued his life of service as a Correctional Officer at Westville Correctional Facility, from which he eventually retired. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his devotion to his faith. As a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Eddie served as an usher, extending his warmth and guidance to all who entered.
Eddie's talents extended beyond his professional and spiritual life; he was a man who could fix anything with his hands. His love of working on cars and his passion for fishing were hobbies that not only brought him joy but also allowed him to share special moments with family and friends.
Family was the cornerstone of Eddie's life. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Billie Rae (nee Beavers) Allison; his son, Garry L. Allison; his parents, Eddie J. Allison and Amanda (nee Williams) Allison; and his siblings, Leroy Allison, Archie Allison, Quincy Allison, Mary Brown, and Della Crittendon.
Eddie's legacy lives on through his surviving children, Remonde M. (Regina) Allison, and Sheree D. Allison; his special son, Ronqui (Gabrielle) Allison Jr., whom he reared as his own; his eleven grandchildren, Ronqui (Moniki) Allison Sr., Iyanah Allison, Stacie (Aramis Sr.) Jenkins, Tracie Allison, Ramona Alex, Violet Richardson, Mechell Allison, Meagan Richardson, Douglas Mitchell, Zion Allison, and Kaya Stovall; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and relatives who will miss him dearly.
Eddie's life was also enriched by his close friendship with Deacon Melvin Meriweather. Their bond was a source of mutual support and camaraderie, and Eddie's family is deeply grateful for the love and companionship Deacon Melvin Meriweather brought into his life.
Eddie J. Allison's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit remains a guiding light. His life was a testament to the power of love, service, and commitment. The memories of his unwavering support, his gentle smile, and the wisdom he shared will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends.
Eddie J. Allison will be deeply missed, but the impact of his life's work and the love he gave will be felt for generations to come.
