Eddie Joseph Daccarett age 78 passed away on Monday, January 13th at Hospice House in Stuart after a long 2-year battle with cancer. Ed is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laurie Daccarett, his 5 siblings; Sonia Daccarett Marzouka, Diane Daccarett Chemaly, George Daccarett, Tony Daccarett, and Patricia Daccarett Graham, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews and their children. Ed was born in Kingston, Jamaica on June, 2, 1946 to Zeky Leon Daccarett and Marie Therese Daccarett who have predeceased him.
Ed had a long career in the Travel industry, working for several airlines and then served for 13 years with the Jamaica Tourist Board where he opened several offices in the United States including Chicago, Philadelphia and Atlanta. He was in Munich, Germany at a World Travel convention where he and Laurie met over Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee during a break. They then met again 2 years later in Jamaica when Laurie traveled there as a travel agent. Being a man of action, Ed saw they were married the following July in Jamaica at the foot of Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios. Then they lived in Miami for 13 years and then moved to Greensboro, Georgia for a year and a half. Then they relocated back to Florida and have lived in Palm City ever since. Ed was an avid gardener of all things tropical and at one point had over 250 coconut trees in his yard, along with mangoes, ackee, naseberrys, pineapple, avocadoes, tamarind, rose apples, and lots of bamboo. Ed loved to share his produce with others.
After the Tourist Board, Ed started and ran a wholesale tour operation company and packaged and sold Caribbean vacations to travel agents. He then established a Travel Trade Show company that produced travel trade shows for travel agents throughout Florida. This allowed Ed and Laurie wonderful travels to all directions of the globe.
Ed had a passionate faith and love of the Lord. He was a daily communicate at Catholic Mass for over 20 years. While living in Miami, he saw the film Silent Scream and his passion for the unborn was ignited. Ed has been an advocate for Life ever since. In 1997 he began producing a monthly newsletter, Christian Action News, encouraging others to put their Christian values into action. He never quit fighting that fight and produced his last January newsletter in the weeks before he died. This would have been the start of his 28th year publishing. He sent this out for free. In 1999, Ed sought funding from donors and has been putting up Pro-Life billboards throughout Florida ever since for these 25 years. Ed's dedication knew no end and he continued on with his fight for the right to life for the unborn, even with most people quit. He also started a local low power Catholic Radio Station which he ran for several years, including producing talk shows with himself and a host of guest speakers.
Ed has been an inspiration to all who knew him. In his last few years he handed out hundreds of rosaries to everyone who might take one and always had an encouraging word to friends and strangers alike, always bringing their attention back to the Lord and helping to strengthen their faith where it might be wavering. Ed was a very frugal person and often denied himself niceties and things he deemed extravagances, but he freely gave his money to those who most needed it.
Ed will be greatly missed by so many people. He was an inspiration to everyone's life he touched. We are glad he is no longer suffering here on earth and know that all the lives he saved will be waiting to greet him with joy in heaven. God Bless you Ed, we love you!
