Eddie "Ed" Harvey Erickson, 85, lovingly known as "Ed," peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be Friday, July 12th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home located at 100 E. Kansas Ave., Arkansas City. The Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, July 13th at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 302 S. B Street, Arkansas City.
Born to Harvey and Adalene Erickson on June 19, 1939, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Ed lived a full and enriching life dedicated to his passions and loved ones. Ed married the late Brenda Williams in 1960, and later found great love with Alice Irene Baier, whom he married in 1977. He graduated from Arkansas City High School and embarked on a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication. Initially employed at Rodeo Meats, Ed later transitioned to become an independent trucker for Ark City Warehouse, ultimately retiring after years of hard work.
In his retirement, Ed was able to indulge in his greatest joys. He found immense fulfillment in raising quarter horses, a passion that brought him much happiness and satisfaction. Above all, Ed cherished spending time with his extensive family. He was a devoted father to his 10 children, a proud grandfather to 19 grandchildren, and a beloved great-grandfather to 19 and counting great-grandchildren.
Ed is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his daughter Ellene Marie Befort.
He is survived by his wife Alice Erickson, sons Eddie Erickson Jr. (Marsha), Duane Befort (Connie), Eric Befort (Kimberly), Harold Befort (Dawn), Reverend Fr. Daryl Befort, and daughters Elizabeth "Liz" Martell (Ken), Kimberly Daniels (Kirk Keppel), Doreen Molitor (Greg), and Dr. Eva Harmon. Brother William "Bill" Erickson (Carolyn).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Sacred Heart Catholic School. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home & Crematory. Online condolences may be made at www.rindt-erdman.com.
Ed will be fondly remembered for his strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones. His legacy of hard work, love for horses and dedication to family will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Rest in peace, Ed. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts. Ride on Red Rider!!
