David Eddie Hill, 74, of Durham, NC passed away on Thursday, June 29 at Hock Pavilion. He was born in Spindale, NC to the late Edgar A. Hill and Rachel Hodge Hill.
Baseball has always been a major part of Eddie's life. He was so very proud to be a part of the Charlotte Post 9 Legion National Championship teams. Eddie graduated from UNC and played baseball setting many records during his career. He signed and played professionally for the Cincinnati Reds organization. Eddie was proud to be a Tarheel and a member of the Old Leaguers Club.
Professionally, Eddie was a financial planner until retirement. He didn't like being retired, so he became a Medicare consultant and became a driver for Johnson Lexus -his dream job.
Eddie enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and golfing with friends. His most prized enjoyment was being "Pop" to his five grandsons. He was loved by so many for his loyalty and dedication. He will be greatly missed.
Eddie was a member of Braggtown Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon and in many other positions. He loved teaching the Bible and serving his Lord. His strong faith was exemplified during these last months. He truly fought the fight with love and grace.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dianne Mangum Hill, sons, Jonathan Hill and wife Stacy; Brian Hill and wife Chantel; grandsons Jed, Andrew and Tyler Hill, Ryker Jordan and Tate Runyon; his father-in-law, Bruce Mangum; his Mangum in-laws Debbie Loflin (Aaron); Denny Mangum (Debra); David Mangum (Katherine); his Hill in-law, Sandra Hill; and many nephews and spouses and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ed and Rachel Hill; his beloved mother-in-law Edna (Gaggy) Mangum; and his brother and best friend, Garry Hill.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions can be made to Braggtown Baptist Church, 3218 N. Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27704, Emergency Chaplains of Durham, P. O. Box 14762, Durham, NC 27709, or Hock Family Pavilion, 4023 N. Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27704. The family would like to thank Drs. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 6th at Braggtown Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 7th at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Dear Diane,
I know you're going to miss Eddie so much. You both both have had a long, hard journey the last few years which has blessed so many by your love for the Lord and for each other. You have been such a joyful sufferer through these hard days but now Eddie is safe, home with the Lord Jesus.
The glad day is coming when we will all be together with no more separations.
John 14:1-6, our future "real estate "!
