Greek Caudill Obituary

Greek Caudill, Jr., a devoted husband, cherished daddy and loving pawpaw, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025 in Waxhaw, NC, surrounded by his family.

He was born October 23, 1950, in Durham, NC to Greek and Dorothy Caudill. He graduated from Northern High School in 1970. A proud veteran of the United States military, Greek was an active member of the United States Navy, United States Navy Reserves and United States Army National Guard. A military career spanning over 7 years, carried with him the values of service, dedication, and resilience throughout his life. He also showed this by devoting 17 ½ years with IBM, which was his most favorite job. We often joked that he loved being at this job more than being home. After he left IBM, Greek had several other jobs, but nothing ever compared to his career at IBM.

In Greek Jr's earlier part of his life, he enjoyed playing on IBM's coed softball team, fishing at the IBM park and playing cards with family and friends. He was also a talented bowler, traveling on leagues sometimes to different cities and states for tournaments. He enjoyed this sport alongside many friends but also his wife, Lynn and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Edie Wilson.

Greek Jr is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lynn Caudill; his daughter, Kim Dickey (Ian); his grandchildren, Ally Dickey (Bradley), Shelby Dickey, Jace Dickey. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Caudill (Mary), sister, Judy Rigsbee (Roger); nieces, nephews and cousins. Greek Jr is preceded in death by his father Greek Caudill, mother Dorothy Caudill and brother Ronnie Caudill. He is also survived by loving friends, some who were like family.

Greek Jr shared 51 years with his beloved wife or "honey" and was a loving pawpaw to his three grandchildren who brought him immense joy. Greek and Lynn's only child, daughter Kim-affectionately known as his "punkin" and daddy's little girl-was the light of his life. And Ian, his son-in-law, was much more than that…he was the son he never had, affectionately named "buddy". Ian could do no wrong in Greek's eyes. The affectionate banter that would fill the room between Greek and Ian would make us all smile and laugh, especially those two.

Greek Jr lived in Durham for most of his life before moving to Graham in 2006. He spent his final few years with his wife living with their daughter and her family in Waxhaw. The last few years of Greek's life were marked by health battles, but he faced them with humor and determination. Family and friends often joked that he was like a cat with nine lives, always bouncing back-funny, considering he despised cats! His simple philosophy, "Mind over matter, I don't mind, and it don't matter," carried him through all challenges.

Even after receiving a terminal diagnosis on July 3, Greek's spirit remained unbroken. He fulfilled his final wishes to travel to Cherokee, West Virginia, and enjoy time fishing-moments that brought him peace and happiness in his final days. Though his time with us was brief, living only 2 months after his latest diagnosis, his faith and courage never wavered. Our prayer was for him to be free of suffering, and God's faithfulness was evident in his final days.

Greek Jr's warmth, whit, and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of those he cherished most.

The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00am. The funeral service will be at Clements Funeral Chapel on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held following the burial at the Gathering Room at Clements Funeral Home.
