Edgar Thomas Goodman Jr.

Edgar T. Goodman, Jr., of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on September 23, 1936, in Washington, DC, Ed lived a life full of accomplishments, passion, generosity and kindness.
A self-described adrenaline junkie, Ed was an avid rock climber who spent many weekends scaling rocks with his lifelong best friend, Don Jackson. He loved camping, fishing, caving – always seeking adventure. In his later years he enjoyed watching Jeopardy, pro football, college basketball and playing cards. After retiring from IBM his passion for technology and teaching led him to Cape Fear Community College, where he taught computer upgrade and repair. At the age of 76, Ed earned an associate degree to fulfill the requirement to teach, demonstrating his determination and love for learning. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Syvone Eason Goodman, and his parents, Edgar T. Goodman, Sr and Mary Catherine Walton. He is survived by his three children: Marian Goodman Alexander (Wayne), Edgar Thomas Goodman, III (Erika) and Mary Catherine Goodman. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Ann and brother James.
Affectionately known as D-Dad, Ed was very close to his eight grandchildren, Chris, Zack, Joey, Sara, Nikki, Katie, James and Rachel. And his five great grandchildren. The family is especially grateful to Don Jackson, Ed's best friend for over 70 years who is always at the ready whenever the family needs him. And to Liz Barbu for her love, compassion, and care for Ed over the past several years.
At Ed's request, his body has been donated to science in the hopes of finding a cure for Inclusion Body Myositis, a condition he was diagnosed with in 2014.
A celebration of life will be held at 5:00pm on October 28th at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation followed by a small reception. All are invited to stay and share fellowship and memories.
Ed will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, dedication and love for family will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
