Edgar "Ed" Raleigh, age 93 years, 6 months of Danville, Kentucky, formerly of Jackson, went to his forever home surrounded by his loving family on June 14, 2025. Ed was born on December 19, 1931 to Cale Raleigh and Evalee Raleigh Turner of WolfCoal, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anna Rose McClung along with three children; Debbie Brewer (Doug), Pam Cornelius (Mitch), and Edgar Raleigh II (in memoriam Angie). seven grandchildren; Jesse Haddix, Justin Haddix, Jade Haddix, Brant Cornelius, Taylor Cornelius, Jhet Raleigh, Jhentri Raleigh, four great grandchildren; Hayla Haddix, Jayce Haddix, Jenna Haddix and Justin Cole (JCole) Haddix II.

Ed began his school years at the Raleigh School in WolfCoal until grade 8 and then two years studying at Breathitt High School and then 2 years at the Highland Institute to obtain his high school diploma. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in California. From there he was recruited to work for the CIA in Washington, D.C. where he met Miss Anna Rose McClung of Mt. Lookout, West Virginia, she was also employed by the CIA. After a 2 year courtship they married and moved to Richmond, Kentucky so Ed could attend Eastern Kentucky University to begin his path as an educator. While at EKU, he received his BA, Masters, and later his Rank l. With a teaching degree in hand and their young daughter Debbie he and Ann moved to Breathitt County to begin his professional career. His first teaching position was at Lees Jr. College located in Jackson where he was an instructor and basketball coach. He moved from there to being an employee of the Citizens Bank of Jackson for one year before being asked by Mrs. Marie R. Turner to join the Breathitt County school system where he worked for the next 32 years. He first started as assistant principal and then principal at the newly constructed LBJ Elementary School. Ed completed his career as Director of Buildings and Grounds in the system. After retiring from Breathitt County Schools he continued his career by again working at Lees Jr. College as Dean of Students. Ed also had a distinguished 34 year career as a member of the Kentucky National Guard where he rose to the highest rank of a Full Bird Colonel. He also had the privilege of being the Commander of the Selective Service System of Kentucky. All the while busy with his professional life he also made time for church, club meetings and community activities. He was avid leader in bringing football to our youth in the community. He was a lifetime member of the Guerrant Memorial Presbyterian Church, a member of the Kiwanis Club with an attendance record of 34 years, a member of the Masonic Lodge and later a member of the Breathitt County and Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Cale Raleigh and Evalee Raleigh Turner his stepfather Wessie Turner, two brothers, Vergil Raleigh of Southgate, Kentucky and Charles Lindberg Raleigh ( along with wife Julia) of Independence, Kentucky, and his much beloved daughter-in-law Angie Fugate Raleigh of Jackson, Kentucky.

Ed also leaves behind many special friends and extended family members.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the Breathitt Funeral Home 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM with the funeral service to be held Wednesday, June 18, at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Tim Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Nelson Cemetery at Nicholasville on Friday, June 20, at 11:00 AM.

Pallbearers will be Edgar Raleigh II, Jesse Haddix, Justin Haddix, Jade Haddix, Brant Cornelius, Jhet Raleigh, JCole Haddix, Bruce Herald, Sam Westin Herald.

Honorary pallbearers are post mortem, Lin Raleigh and Vergil Raleigh, his brothers, Sam Herald, Bill Raleigh, John Slone, Bobby Terry along with Cale Turner, Daniel Haddix, Danny McIntyre, Darrell Raleigh, David Hendrickson, Derrick Hamilton, Don Bostron, Don Hardy, Doug Brewer, Doug Smith, Ervine Allen, Fred Landrum, Gabby Mullins, Hagen Codell, Hubert Hollon, James McClung, Jeff Lipscomb, Jeff Raleigh, Lou Warrix, Mike Miller, Mitch Cornelius, Wayne King, Owen Collins, PR Herald, Ray David Salee, Ronald Bailey, Teddy Edmonds.
