Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels - NortheastEdgar Edmund Smith, 90, of San Antonio, passed away, on October 7, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on May 26, 1935, he was also known by his childhood nickname "Kitín." He attended high school at Colegio San José and McDonogh School in Maryland. He then moved to New York City. He later studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse in California. He was then drafted into the US Army where he served in Korea. He went on to receive an MBA and law degree from University of Puerto Rico. Edgar was married to his first wife Albilda for a short time but remained close with her family.
Edgar met his lifelong love Theresa on Condado Beach in Puerto Rico in 1967. They were married in November 1969 and had four children. The family moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1983. Edgar worked in numerous positions over the years and retired from civil service at the Texas Employment Commission. In his retirement, Edgar and Theresa spent much of their free time with grandchildren, traveling with their RV club, playing bunco, and taking trips all over the world! They also spent a lot of time volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul in Floresville delivering meals to those in need.
Edgar is preceded in death by his mother Maria, father Paul, brothers Sonny and Harry, and sister-in-law Teresa. Edgar is survived by his wife Theresa, his children Edgar II, Anne-Marie (Kordell), John (Monika), and Jessica, and 9 grandchildren – Avery, Aubry, Aidyn, Wyatt, Katelyn, Quinn, Jaxon, Maddie, and Emma. He is also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Edgar was a very loving husband and father. He was our greatest champion and always guided us with love in his heart. Family meant everything to him. He was strong, dedicated, kind, funny, stubborn, and generous to many causes. Everyone absolutely loved being around him! We will miss him dearly.
We will have a viewing on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at 12-4pm (rosary at 2pm) at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapel (14315 Judson Rd, San Antonio, TX 78233). A reception will follow. Family and friends are invited to join in remembrance and support during this difficult time. May Edgar rest in peace and may his family and friends find strength and solace in the beautiful memories of the love they shared.
