Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smart Memorial Home - Tilton on Oct. 23, 2023.
On October 26, 1923 Edith May Rudd was born at home on her family farm on Beckley Hill in Barre, VT. She was the daughter of Edward and Ethel Rudd and the oldest of seven siblings. She passed away peacefully on October 21, 2023, five days before her 100 birthday.
Edie attended a one room schoolhouse and then Spaulding High School in Barre VT. After graduation she moved to Laconia NH and lived with her grandparents and aunts. During World War II she worked at Scott and Williams in Laconia in the payroll department.
She met her future husband Leon Bosselait at a dance at Weirs Beach. They lived in Manchester NH where she worked as a bookkeeper at Textron while Leon attended jewelers school. They later moved to Franklin NH where they opened a small jewelry and gift store. She was a stay at home mom for many years while also doing the bookkeeping for the jewelry store.
Over the years she held jobs as a classroom aide, in the school hot lunch program, and the State of NH. Her last ten years of work were as a teller at the Franklin Savings Bank where her skills and work ethic were so appreciated that they nicknamed their new computer system "Edie" just before she retired. She helped out with girl scouts and cub scouts
and the Franklin Outing Club.
The family thrived all year on vegetables from her garden that she canned and froze, pickled and preserved. Edie whipped up wonderful multicourse meals for anyone who happened to be visiting around mealtime. Gardening, sewing, knitting, ceramics, decorating for every season, entertaining family and friends and helping anyone who needed a hand kept her always busy. The family loved camping and travelling throughout New England. They traveled monthly to the family farm in Barre, VT where her parents, siblings, nieces and nephews kept a very close and loving relationship.
When her two grandsons were young she was a dedicated "Grammy" and constantly helped with childcare, teaching them life skills and
family relationships. She is also the proud "Great Grammy" for six great grandchildren.
Edie moved back to Laconia and lived at Taylor Community after retirement which brought her many new friends and wonderful memories.
Edie was predeceased by her husband Leon, parents Edward Sr. and Ethel Rudd, sisters Evelyn Sleeper and Esther Lafond, brothers Edward Rudd Jr. and Bob Rudd, and nephew Mark Sleeper.
