Edith Grant Obituary

Edith A. Hollinsworth Grant, a beacon of kindness and love, embarked on her final journey on October 12, 2025, at the Richmond County Hospice Haven. She was born on October 21, 1927, in Richmond County, North Carolina, where she spent her early years surrounded by the love of her parents, Gilbert Charles Hollinsworth and Mima Virginia Steen Hollinsworth.

Edith dedicated many years of her career to the textile industry, particularly at Burlington Industries, where her hard work and dedication were a testament to her character. Yet, it was her role as a mother and grandmother that she cherished the most. Her proudest accomplishments included her beloved family, which she nurtured with warmth and affection throughout her life. Her loving spirit and kind nature touched all who knew her, creating countless fond memories for her family and friends.

A lifelong member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Edith held the distinction of being the oldest member until her passing. Her faith and commitment to her church were integral parts of her identity, offering her community both strength and solace.

Edith is survived by her loving son, Bennett Coy Grant, and her cherished grandchildren: Patty Tolar, Beth Steen, Betty Jean Downing, Ashley Allread, and Chuck Newton, along with numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces as well as nephews. Each carries forward the legacy of love and kindness she instilled in them.

She was preceded in death by many cherished family members, including her loving husband Woodrow Grant, a son William Charles Grant, her daughter Betty Jean Grant Steen, and granddaughter Edie Williams, along with her siblings: Bill, J.C., Ed, and Bernie Hollinsworth, and her sister Jane Shirk. The losses they shared in this life now bring them together again in peace.

A graveside service to honor Edith’s life will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Pleasant Hill UMC in Wallace, SC, beginning at 2:00 PM.

Visitation will follow the service in the Pleasant Hill UMC fellowship hall where family will gather to reminisce on the stories told by her friends.

As we gather to celebrate a life beautifully lived, filled with love, and to remember the extraordinary impact Edith A. Grant had on those fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends, reminding us all of the beauty of a life dedicated to love and kindness.
