Edith Honegan, 90, departed this life on October 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and generosity that spans five generations.
Born February 2, 1935, the daughter of the late Eva P. Smith and Rev. Lennon J. Grice, Edith's life was defined by her devotion to family and faith. Edith, lovingly known as "Mother Honegan, Sister Peach, and Peachy" was raised in Glastonbury, CT and lived in Hartford, CT. Together with her beloved late husband, Albert, she co-owned several restaurants and bars.
Edith had a generous heart and worked at G. Fox and Filene's, taking special joy in finding the perfect gifts to spoil her grandchildren. She was a woman of many talents and passions: crocheting beautiful blankets, tending to the flowers that brightened her Enfield Street home, working crossword puzzles, shopping, and traveling to new places.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Edith began attending Holy Trinity Church at just five years old with the late Mother Ola Floyd. The late Evangelist Lacey gave Edith the nickname "Sister Peachy" due to her sweet personality. For over 25 years, Edith raised her voice in Holy Trinity's Heavenly Choir. Over more than 70 years of church service, Edith served as a Sunday school teacher, Missionary board, Mothers board, visited the sick and shut-in, and baked her renowned cakes for church fundraisers and the building fund. Her life was a testament to Christian service and love.
She is survived by her children: Forrell E. (Beverly) Grant, Jr., Albert Honegan, Deborah Honegan, and James V. (Rhonda) Honegan. Her grandchildren: Regina Cochran, David H. Honegan, Jasmine Honegan, Jaime Honegan, Cynphanie Wiggins, Devonshawn Honegan, Albert Douglas Honegan, Jordan Honegan, Shanae Honegan, and Forrell E. Grant, III. Her great-grandchildren: Aaron Cochran, Amanda Arroyo, Ezekiel Myrie, Delmont Cochran, Gabriel Cochran, Jadrien Lacedonia, Jayden Cochran, Shanira Honegan, Ava Honegan, and Brielle Honegan. Her great-great-grandchildren: Naziah Ann Cochran, Xavien Lopez, Milani Cochran, and Jayceon Cochran; and goddaughter, Robin Cooper-Garcia. Mother Honegan leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A beautiful testament to a life well-lived and a family deeply loved. She is predeceased by both parents, all her siblings: Meredith Bell, Horace Kenny Solomon Smith, Roberta and Robert Brewster; her son, David Lloyd Honegan; and grandson James Vincent Honegan, Jr.
Edith's warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Deacan Honagan and to his family and friends. I won't be able to attend the Homegoing Service for Mother Honagan due to my work schedule. She was such a sweet spirited woman of God and l felt His presence when she sat across from me in church. I will cherish the sweet kiss she placed on my cheeks. I thank God for you Mother Honagan. I pray that God will strengthen this family in these days that go forward.
