Edith E. "Edie" Meier

Edith (Edie) Emma Meier passed away peacefully on October 31at the age of 95, two days short of her 96th birthday. Edie was born in Bay City to the late William and Anna (Maibach) Wieland on November 2, 1927. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Gerald (Jerry) Meier. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and loved her church community. During her early life, Edie was a homemaker and stayed at home to raise her children and help her husband, Jerry, on the family farm. Later in life, she worked at Bay Medical Care Facility and retired from there. She was a lifelong resident of Bay County and enjoyed winters at Windward Isle, Sarasota, Florida.
Edie is survived by her children, Jeff (Lorraine) Meier of Utica, MI, Holly (Steve) White of Tampa, FL, Bruce (Marla) Meier of Bay City, Grant (LouAnn) Meier of Frankfort, MI, and Dave Meier of Bay City. She was the beloved grandmother of 13 grandchildren; Eric (Margo), Ben, Jennifer, Mark (Amanda), Ryan, Ashley, Brandon (Nevena), Tiffany, Nic, Travis, Trisha, Erieanne, Brett and 5 great grandchildren; Emmett, Brody, Sava, Mallory and Ainsley. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Gloria Schultz. In addition to her parents and husband, Edie was preceded in death by infant son, Drew Jay Meier and 11 older siblings: seven sisters; Helen, Margaret, Marie, Millie, Alice, Laura, Grace and 4 brothers; Floyd, Clem, Howard and Guy.
Edie most enjoyed activities with her late husband, Jerry, her family and her large extended family. She was a great cook and was well known for her baking, delicious pies and peanut brittle at Christmas time. She loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed Michigan fall color tours and winters in Florida.
Funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church with internment to follow at the Apostolic Cemetery. Officiating will be the Clergy of the Church. The family will be present to receive visitors at the Gephart Funeral Home on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Woodhaven Retirement Community or the Apostolic Christian Church.
