Dr. Edith Henrietta Pryce-Arnold peacefully departed this earthly life on Thursday, July 18, 2024. She was born November 1st, 1941, the 8th of nine siblings born within the union of her parents Manasseh Emanuel Pryce and Victoria Josiah Pryce on the island nation of Antigua. She was raised in a God-fearing home as a Seventh-day Adventist, was a Pathfinder, Master Guide, and nurtured with music, love and faith as some of the pillars of her environment. Her early education began at Old Road School, followed by the Antigua Girls High School (AGHS) in St. Johns, Antigua, from 1954 until graduation from 6th Form in 1960, receiving several post high school accolades, awards, certificates, and commendations.
Originally from the village of Old Road, St. Mary's Parish, Antigua, Edith is the daughter of former local proprietors, entrepreneurs and agriculturalists who fostered a close-knit family, instilling a strong work ethic from an early age. She dreamed of becoming a medical doctor as a young girl, fixing broken wings from birds and checking the pulse and heartbeat of any animal her brother, Roland, would capture. Knowing the pathway to her dream would begin with a clear vision and strong determination, she understood there would be obstacles along the way, viewing them as stepping stones towards her goals.
Dr. Pryce-Arnold attended the Caribbean Union College, in Maracus Valley, Trinidad from 1962 - 1964, completing her teaching certificate in Early Childhood education, returning to Antigua and accepting a teaching position at the St. Johns Seventh-Day Adventist School from 1964 - 1967. She, along with her sister, Albertine, enrolled into nursing school in Bella Vista Hospital, Mayaguez, Puerto Rico from 1968-1971 completing a nursing certificate while learning a new language. When she left Puerto Rico, she was fully proficient in conversational Spanish.
Seeking further educational prospects, she enrolled in Washington Adventist University (formerly, Columbia Union College), in Takoma Park, MD from 1971- 1973, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in nursing, followed by pre-med training at Howard University in Washington, D.C. from 1974-1976. She graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1981 as a medical doctor and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine and General Surgery at Huron Hospital, Cleveland, OH 1982 – 1984; Brooklyn Hospital, Brooklyn, NY 1986-1987 and Cabrini Medical Center, New York, NY 1987-1988.
Dr. Pryce-Arnold relocated to Gloversville, NY, joining the staff at Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home. She established an independent medical practice in the early 1990's and maintained her practice until her retirement in 2023. She shared over 50 years of diverse medical experience both as a registered nurse and as a medical doctor specializing in Internal Medicine and General Surgery. She had affiliations with both the Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home and St. Mary's Hospital as well as professional relationships with many local doctors and specialists throughout her local communities of Fulton and Montgomery Counties.
Dr. Pryce-Arnold contributed to various medical publications and presentations:
She was an accomplished pianist, a multi-linguist, speaking French and Spanish, as well as some Russian and German. She believed in education to its core and was a philanthropist, partnering with family members to spearhead educational pursuits for her nieces and nephews throughout her family. She credited her journey and success to her strong faith in God, many close and supportive family members who encouraged her to fulfill her dream of becoming a medical doctor; her teachers at the Antigua Girls High School and Washington Adventist University (WAU) formerly Columbia Union College, Howard University, George Washington University and her colleagues/associates along her career path. She took her oath of citizenship to the Unites States of America in 2004.
Dr. Edith Pryce-Arnold had been married to Eugene Arnold, a former chemist and pilot from Germany for over 25 years. They enjoyed quality family time, including camping, fishing, swimming, playing tennis, traveling the United States visiting relatives and friends and other countries around the world. Her other hobbies included volunteering as a Missionary Medical doctor; hiking in the Adirondack mountains, Mount Marcy, White Face Mountain and the Catskills mountains, and playing golf.
Dr. Pryce-Arnold was predeceased by her parents, Manasseh Pryce and Victoria Josiah Pryce as well as her siblings Daniel, Morris, and Roland Pryce, Rosetta Etinoff and Floretta Browne; nieces Geraldine Pryce Bascomb and Althea Pryce; nephews, Ronald Faminu, Gerald and Eustace Pryce.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Arnold; stepdaughter, Catalina Arnold and husband, Stephan, and their son, Mateo, of Germany; two sisters, Ellenora Pryce Anthony and Albertine (Tine) Pryce Faminu, residing, respectively, in Monrovia, Indiana and Columbia, Maryland.
Additionally survived by nieces, nephews and their children in various parts of the world: Conklin, Caswall (Cass), Verdon, John, Kenny, Nicola, Jacqueline; Bertrand (Berts), Valerie (Val), Wilmeade (Meedi), Clifton, Olive-Lane (Laani); Claude, Nolan (Noli-Poli), Rosanne (Zani), Francyl; Avery, Vaughn, Andrea, Blair, Delouise (Del), Ivor; Heather and John (Ian); friends and caretakers; many close colleagues, her treasured staff members in her family practice, and her dear friend, Pamela Frascatore.
With incredible grief for our loss, yet deep gratitude in our hearts for the life she shared, we thank God for the rich life she has lived, for the love, kindness, and legacy she has imparted to everyone in her path. Our lives have been enriched by the compensating value she added to everyone.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 am to 1 pm on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, NY.

I met Dr. Pryce when we worked together in the Gloversville Primary Care Center. We became fast friends. I admired her soft spoken personality, she was a very sweet lady. Very intelligent and I enjoyed learning from her. I hadn't seen her in years, but got updates from Delilah Reynolds as to what she was doing. She will be missed for sure.
