Edith Rand Obituary

Edith Malone Rand GREENVILLE - Edith Malone Rand, 86, passed away at home, on Friday, December 5, 2025. A service celebrating her life will be Friday, December 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Paul Episcopal Church Chapel. Enichement will be held in the columbarium at the church. A native of Fairfield, Alabama, Edith was born on November 27, 1939, as the only child of the late Andrew and Leslie Smith Malone. She was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama and an avid supporter of "the Tide." It was there that she received her BS in Chemistry and later her Masters at North Carolina State University. Edith cared deeply about education. She was a retired Chemistry Professor at East Carolina University and member of the ECU Alumni Association. She not only taught Chemistry for many years, but she had a unique love for the Joyner Library on ECU's campus including her dedication to expanding the university library as a community resource. This, along with tireless work for and with members and students contributed to her being granted The Joyner Library Lifetime Membership in March 2017. She was an avid gardener and always enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others, especially her love of camellias. She spent many years planning and cultivating the Mary Margaret Association Garden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She and her surviving husband, Dr. Cecil (Skip) Holmes Rand, have been longstanding parishioners of St. Paul Episcopal Church. She served in many capacities, including a 55-year tenure on the Altar Guild, Gardening Volunteer, and was one of the instrumental people in beginning the Christmas Homes Tour and Bazaar, which she loved very much. Edith supported many local organizations including Friends of Joyner Library, Friends of Shepherd Memorial Library, Greenville Garden Club, ReLeaf Greenville, NC, Pitt Community College, Emerge Gallery, Meals on Wheels and the Service League of Greenville. She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Dr. Cecil (Skip) Holmes Rand and sons, Marshall Holmes Rand of Washington and Patrick Malone Rand and wife, Anne Marie, of Jackson, Mississippi, Granddaughters, Isabella Holmes Rand of Arlington, VA and Meredith Malone Rand of New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Paul's Episcopal Church, 401 E. 4th Street, Greenville, NC 27858. All arrangements are being handled by the Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville, NC. Online condolences at www.wilkersonfuneralhome.com
