Edith Marie Rittenhour, 83 of Oceola passed away on Saturday August 3, 2024 at Wyandot Nursing and Rehabilitation in Upper Sandusky. Edith was born May 17, 1941 in Vanceburg, KY to the late Mack and Myrtle (Howard) Butler. She was married September 8, 1956 to Rodney R. Rittenhour who preceded her in death on February 9, 2020. She was also preceded in death by brother Raymond Butler and sisters Lottie Dyer, Kathleen Faulkner, Julie Logan, Christine Dyer, and Helen Richmond, as well as her best friend Grace Lewis Lawhun.
Edith is survived by children William of Nevada; Jan (Sondra) of Galion; Angel Gillen of Nevada; Clayton (Amy Jarvis) of Bucyrus; and Rhea Farmer of Bucyrus; grandchildren Michael of Bucyrus, Emma (David) Evans of Galion, Chet of Upper Sandusky and Eugene of Upper Sandusky, OH, Merry (Richard) Daughtry of Wapakoneta, OH, Logan and Keegan Gillen of Nevada, Dalton of Bucyrus, and Talon (Emily) of Cardington; great grandchildren Tyler, Callen, Aubrey, Dylan, Xander, Gabriel, Gunner, Eden, Avery, Rylee, Devyn, Sylas, Stella, Zoe, Madison, Lennox, Levi, Conner, Maya, and Landon; and brother Charles (Angie) Butler of Indiana.
Edith lived most of her life in Oceola and was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church. She had many hobbies that included cooking and baking, gardening and canning, taking care of houseplants, going mushroom and squirrel hunting, attending flea markets and thrift stores, collecting frogs, quilting, making sock monkeys for every grand and great grandchild, and playing scrabble and crossword puzzles. Edith especially enjoyed bird watching and hummingbirds, eating sweets, rescuing animals, and loved spending time with her family, close friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Edith worked a short time in a nursing home, special packaging, and part time for ODOT. She was primarily a homemaker and mother to her 5 children.
The family will receive friends at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 pm with Chaplain Joy Cochran officiating and burial to follow in Oceola Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Ohio Health Hospice, Marion and especially Suzette Hall for her care and also a special thanks to Dr. Saurabh Das and his staff in Mansfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society or Ohio Health Hospice in Edith’s memory.
