Edith Steinmetz, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 91. Born on August 21, 1934, Edith was a beacon of love and warmth, always bringing joy to those fortunate enough to know her.

Edith, maiden name Wantland, was proud of her educational journey, believing wholeheartedly that she attended the best high school in the world—Taylor High School. Her affection for her alma mater continued throughout her life, cherishing the connections formed through her alumni group.

Her professional career included dedicated accounting work for Dubois/Chemed, where her meticulous nature shone brightly. It was in her work that many learned of her kindness and integrity, traits that defined her both personally and professionally.

Edith held a profound love for her family, especially her daughter, Darlene (David) Leston, and particularly her granddaughters, whom she adored beyond measure. Brooke (Jeffrey) Batchelor, Erin (Matthew) Blair, and Jill (Adam Lengerich) Leston were the light of her life, and she proudly declared them as the only three babies ever born, a testament to her deep affection for them. Her joy expanded with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Noah, Asa, Lydia, Joseph, and Simon Batchelor, alongside Cade and Avery Blair, filling her heart with immeasurable happiness. Edith also had a special fur grandbaby, Porter, who brought her additional joy and companionship.

Alongside her family, Edith shared many cherished memories with her late husband, Charles Steinmetz, whose absence is felt deeply. She also mourned the loss of her parents, Glen and Mary (nee Polley) Wantland, and her sister and brother-in-law, Juanita (Howard "Wink") Winkelman. Each family member contributed to the tapestry of her life, and their loving memories remained forever etched in her heart.

Together with her husband, Edith owned an antique store, spending countless weekends at auctions searching for hidden treasures. This shared passion created lifelong memories, reflecting their love for one another and the joy of companionship. In her quiet moments, she found delight in feeding the squirrels in her backyard, believing they were always hungry—a small yet beautiful act of kindness that illustrated her gentle spirit.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the ‘earth angels’ from Queen City Hospice, whose loving support and compassion made Edith's final days serene and peaceful.

Edith Steinmetz will be remembered for her nurturing heart, unwavering love for her family, and the joyful spirit that brightened the lives of all who crossed her path. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will linger in the hearts of her loved ones forever.

Visitation for Edith will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM, held at Dalbert, Woodruff & Isenogle Funeral Home, located at 2880 Boudinot Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45238.
