Edith Foy Swinson

Edith Foy Whiteman, Ketchum, Swinson, a cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 101. Born on August 13, 1924, she was a lifelong resident of Onslow County, where she touched the lives of many with her vibrant spirit and loving nature.

A funeral service to honor Edith's life will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Richlands, NC. Following the service, a visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Edith was a woman of remarkable resilience and warmth, known for her spunky, spicy, and sassy demeanor. She had a deep love for the outdoors, often spending her days enjoying the simple pleasures of life-going on walks, watching people, cars, and birds, and delighting in the laughter of children and babies. Her presence brought joy to those around her, and her loving nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Whitman; her second husband, Troy Ketchum; her third husband, Melvin Swinson; her son, Ronnie Ketchum; her daughter, Anita Louise Whitman; her brother, Adrian Foy; and her sisters, Eula Barber, Francis Mobley, Exis Bennett, and Roxie Stalder.

Edith is survived by her sons, Jimmy Whitman and Donald Ketchum, as well as six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness. She also leaves behind her devoted caregivers and honorary family members, Elizabeth and Rome, who provided her with comfort and companionship in her later years.

Edith's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and a zest for life will continue to inspire all who remember her.
