Edith Estelle Warren, 98, of Gonzales passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025. She was born March 3, 1927 in Gonzales the daughter of Albert Nixon "Nick" Richter Sr. and Ruth Ronshausen.
Edith Estelle Warren married Walter D Warren, Sr. on March 9, 1945. In 1950 their only child was born, Walter D Warren, Jr. (Rusty). These two men were the loves of Edith's life, and she devoted her life to loving them and taking care of them. And even though Edith was a small, quiet woman her son Rusty who towered over her knew he didn't want to cross her too much and make that Richter come out in her.
Edith started working at Wuest grocery store in 1962 in the meat market, she worked there for decades and loved every minute of it until she eventually retired. Everyone loved shopping for their meat at Wuest but if the truth be told it was because of Edith's welcoming smile and friendly conversations she had with all her customers plus excellent meat recommendations.
Many of the teenagers that worked at Wuest loved Edith and would love to tell her stories to make her blush and laugh at them. Edith loved her family dearly and she loved spending time with all of them. Edith loved her grandchildren Michele and Michael and took great joy in watching them grow up. She loved all the family gatherings such as Thanksgiving and Christmas at the "barn" and Richter-Irle Family reunions at the VFW Hall.
She loved to play bingo with her sisters and friends at the bingo halls in surrounding towns, she loved to do circle word puzzles, read Harlequin romance books, watch Wheel of Fortune and the Golden Girls. She loved having coffee with her sister Mary Ella every Sunday afternoon. She loved working in her yard most of all and took great pride in it – even at a very old age you could drive by her house, and she was in the front yard picking up leaves even in 100+ degree weather.
She loved to sit on the porch and wave at all the cars that passed by. Edith made THE BEST fruit cookies during the holiday season – all family, neighbors, and even her doctor waited patiently for the first batches to be made and delivered. Walter and Edith were married 68 years before he passed in 2013. Edith touched so many lives and was so loved; she will be greatly missed.
Edith was a member of the Memorial Heights Baptist Church and enjoyed working with the ladies in the kitchen.
She is survived by her son Rusty Warren and wife Rose of Yoakum, granddaughter Michele Olivares and husband John of Yoakum, grandson Michael Warren and wife Kelley of Inez. Great-grandsons Trey Olivares, Braxton Warren, Bryce Warren and Brayden Warren. Also surviving are her brother-in-law Edwin Wiley of Gonzales and sister-in-law Ann Richter of Luling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Elyse Richter, Mary Ella Gibson and husband Carol, Peggy Wiley and brother Albert Nixon "Bull" Richter Jr.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday June 18, 2025 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 19 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Reverend Clint Lowery officiating. Interment will follow at Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Michael Warren, John Olivares, Trey Olivares, Braxton Warren, Bryce Warren and Brayden Warren.
