James "Jim" Arthur Warren passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2025, at the age of 79. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Elizabeth Thompson Warren and Clarence Council Warren. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 56 years, Dorothy Jane Crow Warren; and his twin daughters, Dana (David) Curtis and Dione (Justin) DeWitte; and their sister, Jane Heather (Rogers) Clayton. Jim and Dorothy had fifteen amazing grandchildren in age order: Emma Jane Clayton, Calvin Clayton, Ella Grace Clayton, Josiah DeWitte, Cannon Clayton, Dana Jane DeWitte, Millie Dean DeWitte, Christian Curtis, Anna Bleu Clayton, Sterling Curtis, Kingford Clayton, Hudson DeWitte, Ila Bliss Curtis, Lily Reese Clayton and Truman Curtis. Jim is also survived by his younger sister, Vicki (Jim) Doederlein, and her family.
Born September 20, 1946, in Highland Park, Michigan, Jim graduated from high school in Roseville, Michigan. He earned an engineering degree from General Motors Institute through alternating work/study semesters. He went on to earn a master's in industrial engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit and an Executive MBA from Michigan State University.
Jim worked for many years at Rockwell International in Troy, Michigan, Youngstown, Ohio and Birmingham, England. He became an expert in Quality Management eventually becoming Six-Sigma certified and a Malcolm Baldrige examiner. In the 1980s, Jim started a side-business called Lightning Calculator selling Statistical Quality Control training aids. Later in his career, Jim worked as a consultant for The Thomas Group at many different companies around the world.
Jim was a Renaissance man developing talents and abilities in many areas-taking pictures, learning about technology, refinishing furniture, washing windows, baking bread, making pies and smoking meat on his Big Green Egg. As an engineer, he was good at fixing and glueing things-his handwriting was neat and precise. Jim loved to eat out, but in more recent years, he said his favorite place to eat was at one of his daughter's tables.
Jim was baptized into Christ as a teenager at the Roseville Church of Christ. As a young man, he committed himself to knowing the Bible. Throughout his life, he set an example for his family by reading the Bible and spending time in prayer every day. Jim also sought out Christian ministries and filled his home with Christian music, books and videos. He listened to many sermons and spent hours preparing to teach Sunday school or preach. Jim was constantly seeking people to encourage in their faith. He made disciples and helped men deepen their faith in God through prayer, Bible reading and Scripture memorization. Jim was also faithful to attend church-he became both a deacon and an elder. In more recent years, Jim helped to establish and lead Blackberry Family Church.
Jim and Dorothy moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2018 and bought a home within a few miles of their daughters and their families-twenty-three people in all. Over the next seven years, the Warren Clan made many cherished memories: celebrating birthdays and holidays with gingerbread house competitions and family talent shows. Grandpa Jim always made everyone feel so welcomed and loved in their home.
Jim faithfully supported his grandchildren-encouraging them in their relationship with God, driving them around town as their personal chauffer, watching them play sports and taking them out to dinner. In the last couple decades, Jim and Dorothy took many trips to places like London, Paris and Mexico with their daughters' families. They also loved spending the winter months in Naples, Florida and attending Capri Christian Church.
Jim truly loved the Lord with all his body, soul and spirit, and he wanted everyone else to know Jesus as their Savior. As a young man he set his heart to know God, and throughout his life, his zeal for knowing Christ and making him known never waned. He finished the race well and surely heard his Savior say, "Well done, Jim, my good and faithful servant."
