It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edith Wilson Wellman, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, who left us peacefully on September 6, 2025, at the age of 97. She was born on August 29, 1928, in Gaston County, North Carolina. Edith and her family then moved to Commerce, Georgia. At the age of 15 her family moved back to Gastonia, where she became a beloved member of the community. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Gastonia.
Edith's journey in life took her through various roles, most notably as an electrical installer in the textile machine manufacturing industry at Warner Swasey/Turbo in Kings Mountain. She embraced her work with dedication and pride, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a passion for learning that inspired those around her.
Beyond her professional life, Edith was a vibrant spirit who cherished time spent with her family. She found immense joy in her daughter, Susan, and her beloved grandchildren, whose laughter and presence filled her heart with warmth. Family gatherings were always a highlight for Edith, and she treasured the moments shared with those she loved.
Edith was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Floyd (Bud) Wellman; parents, Dorothy and Gordon Wilson; sisters, Frankie Michael and Ailene Smith; brothers, Arthur Wilson and Otho Wilson.
Edith is survived by her loving daughter, Susan and husband Scott Nanney; grandson, Brent Huss (Melissa); granddaughter, Jennifer Phillips; five cherished great-grandchildren, Austin Huss (Priscilla), Garrett Huss (Skylar), Seth Huss, Annaleigh Morgan, and Jenna Schwartz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edith will be remembered for her kindness, her laughter, and the love she shared so freely with others. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life. Her family was her pride and joy.
Though we mourn her loss, we also find comfort in the memories of a remarkable woman who lived a rich and fulfilling life. Rest in peace, Edith - your light will continue to shine in our hearts.
A graveside service will be held in honor of Edith at Gaston Memorial Park 1200 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and legacy. The service will be officiated by Pastor Dickie Spargo and the pallbearers will be family members.
