Edmonia Hill Murray, age 93 of
Manchester, Tennessee departed this earthly life, peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 3:20 am at Elk River Nursing Facility in Winchester, Tennessee.
Edmonia was born on June 19, 1932 in
Manchester, Tennessee. She was the second eldest of Joe Irvin Hill and Virgie Lee Jones Hill who are both predeceased Edmonia attended Rosenwald School, in Manchester and thereafter; Davidson Academy, in Tullahoma, Tennessee, where she excelled as a prodigy, in basketball. She pursued her post secondary education, at Philander Smith University in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Edmonia was united in holy matrimony, with her loving and devoted husband, James E. Murray, Jr. (Eddie) (predeceased) on June 23, 1951. To this union, two children were born, Cynthia Veneice and James Andre (predeceased). This union was bonded in love for 65 wonderful years.
Edmonia was the sole proprietor of Murray's Catering Service, for over 40 years. She had an impeccable talent that was flawless. Edmonia always strived for perfection in appearance and performance and excelled. Her perseverance in her business, was beyond reproach and exemplary. Her approach allured the attention of dignitaries and repetitive locals, that her business flourished and she achieved the highest level of success. Edmonia had many different interests and hobbies. She was a volunteer for the hospital auxiliary- She was a "Pink Lady", where she volunteered her time with patients and provided emotional support and greeted visitors. She was a member of the Business and Professional Womens' Organization. She was also a member of the Soroptimist Club as well.
Edmonia was a very compassionate person. She had an exceptional love for children. She was the childrens' Sunday school teacher for many years. At Christmas, she was determined that each child would receive a substantial monetary gift, clothing, and a toy of choice. Also, other gifts were distributed to children that may not have been a member of the church; and was just visiting the congregation. She was a mentor to many children in the community, noticing their distress, nurturing and feeling concern for them. She also went above and beyond for children. The children were privileged to have the advantage of calling her 'Aunt Monia'. She was instrumental as being the choir director of the Heavenly Angels childrens' choir, where she utilized her time for the children to sing and perform according to holiday seasons. She was fundamental in organizing fundraisers for financial support for the church. She was loyal to the church; giving and showing firm and constant support and she was honored to do so. She exhibited commitment and dedication, even while her health was declining and obstacles were difficult or uncomfortable, she was still obedient. She loved her church and loved her God. She also served as the Adult Choir Director, the Usher Board, Church Treasurer and Pastor Parrish Relations board. She also served as a lay leader, and a role model to guide the congregation to fulfill the mission in the absence of the presiding clergymen. She was a hard working woman; she loved her community and served with diligence and grace. Her value was immense and her actions brought joy and honor to those around her. Even though; our hearts are full, and our souls are heavy, we will always cherish the unique space she left in our hearts She left a legacy for all to replicate. She was a soldier in the army of the Lord ; she fought a good fight and she finished her course. We know that the divine messenger is saying well done, welcome home! and she will be singing"I got Heaven on my mind" and" I'll go if I have to go by myself."
Edmonia is survived by a daughter Cynthia Veneice Murray Manchester TN, James Andre (predeceased) a granddaughter Shaune' Geralds, 2 great granddaughters Marleigh Walker and Meadow Geralds, a great grandson Mylan Geralds. A devoted sister Katie Sinkfield, a brother Willard Hill (Lisa) siblings preceded her in death are Sarah Hill Estill, Ronald Hill and Billie Jo Hunter. Special friends: Edith Hickerson Johnson (Sis), Wright Hickerson III (Chip), Maverick Mosley and Orrie Mae Northcutt (predeceased). Devoted niece, Drenna Atala, devoted nephew Angel Atala, devoted great nephew Davonte Sotherland and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews relatives and friends. The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Manchester Funeral Home, 786 McMinnville Hwy,
Manchester, Tennessee. Visitation is from 10 am to 12 pm with the services beginning at 12 pm.
Interment will be at Cypress Gardens on Ewell St. Manchester Tennessee.
