Edna Pauline Cowman, age 89, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Court House Manor Assisted Living.
She was born on March 22, 1936 in Leesburg, Ohio to the late Floyd and Hester (Harris) Thompson. Edna graduated from Wayne High School in 1954. She was a member at the Grace Community Church and Judi Ques Round Dancing and Square-Dancing Club in the 1980's. Edna retired from the Record Herald where she worked as a proof-reader for thirty-five years. She also had worked for the Killeen Newspaper for two years while her husband was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas.
In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmie D. Cowman, whom she married on September 4, 1958; her daughter, Jackie Lee Hellenthal; and siblings, Minnie Stevens, Tillie Dunn, Ruby Parrett, Donna Martindale, Betty Huff, Johnny Thompson, Jimmy Thompson, Vernon Thompson, and Glenn Thompson.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Keith Eckles; grandchildren, Kaleb (Shelby) Eckles, Conner (Carly) Eckles, Cameron (Lillian) Eckles, Mike (Rebecca) Hellenthal, and Tony (Rebekah) Hellenthal; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Teddy, Zac, Bradley, Colten, Alexis, and Alanah; brother, Robert (Mary Ann) Thompson; brother-in-law, Bob Martindale; sister-in-law, Pat Thompson; and grand-dogs, Boom and Gunner. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, along with a host of friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Court House Manor Assisted Living for the amazing care she received.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will be held at the Washington Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at the Grace Community Church with Pastor Jay Lucas officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Grace Community Church, 525 Glenn Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160.
