Edna Jean Douthitt, affectionately known as Jean by her friends and family, was called to her eternal home on November 15, 2025, at the blessed age of 93. Born on April 21, 1932, in the quaint town of Mayfield, Kentucky, Jean grew up to be a beacon of light to everyone she encountered. Her peaceful departure occurred in Des Plaines, Illinois, where she was surrounded by the love of her family, as she passed due to natural causes.
Jean's early life in Mayfield was marked by academic excellence; she graduated as the salutatorian of her class from Wingo High School, where she set a standard of diligence and grace that would follow her throughout her life. Her steadfast Christian faith was the cornerstone upon which she built her life, and it guided her in all her endeavors, both personal and professional.
The love story between Jean and her first husband, Graydon Davis, blessed the world with two sons, Matthew and Michael. Though Matthew and Graydon have preceded her in death, their memory remains a treasure in the hearts of those who knew them. Jean's heart found love once more with John Douthitt, who also preceded her in death, yet their union was one of mutual respect and adoration that continued to inspire many.
Professionally, Jean's warm demeanor and exceptional work ethic were well-known at the offices of Doctors Goodman, Weiss, and Cash in Elk Grove, where she was an indispensable member of the team for many years. Her colleagues cherished her friendly presence, and her selfless nature made her a joy to work with.
Throughout her life, Jean was an active participant in her church community, embodying the love and service that her faith taught. Her love for music was profound, with the melodies of the Mills Brothers, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson often filling her home. The classic films of John Wayne brought her great joy, as she admired the strength and integrity his characters often portrayed.
Jean is survived by her loving son, Michael Davis; her devoted daughter-in-law, Amy Hillier; and her cherished grandson, Rowan Davis. Each of them carries forward her legacy of love, friendship, and selflessness. Jean's impact on their lives is immeasurable, and they will forever honor her memory by living out the values she instilled in them.
To say that Jean was loved is an understatement; she was revered by all who had the privilege of crossing her path. Her loving nature was her trademark, her friendly smile a source of comfort, and her selfless actions a testament to her character. Jean's life was a reflection of her unwavering faith, and her journey on earth was one of purpose, guided by the principles of love and kindness.
As we bid farewell to Edna Jean Douthitt, we are comforted by the knowledge that she is now resting in the arms of her Savior. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of devotion, generosity, and unwavering faith. Jean's memory will forever be a source of inspiration and a beacon of hope to all who knew her.
