Edna L. Erlinger, age 98 of Carlyle, passed away at the Carlyle Healthcare and Senior Living Center on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
Mrs. Erlinger was born in Carlyle, Illinois on November 27, 1926, a daughter of Anton L. and Anna E. (Ratermann) Bretz. She married Erwin L. Erlinger on October 19, 1949, and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2020.
Edna is survived by a daughter – Terri Lynn Philippi and husband Mark of St. Louis, Missouri; her sons - Randy L. Erlinger and wife Barb of Lithia, Florida, Jeffrey L. Erlinger and wife Lisa of Salem, and Todd L. Erlinger and wife Michelle of Pensacola, Florida; his grandchildren – Randi Lynn Deterding, Wesley Erlinger, and Taylor Schaefer and husband Travis; and 7 great grandchildren – Lucas, Logan, Emma, Jaxon, Walker, Cecilia, and Charlie.
Mrs. Erlinger was preceded in death by her parents; a son – Rodney Louis Erlinger; her siblings – Marie Stoffel and John Bretz; and her in-laws – Ray Erlinger, Trix Erlinger, Cyrilla Huene, Marge Pax, Adrian Erlinger, and Laverne Erlinger.
Edna was a dedicated and compassionate registered nurse whose career spanned decades of service to others. She provided personal and attentive care as a private duty nurse, and later worked at St. Joseph Hospital and in the office of Dr. Ducomb.
A private Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held, with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Carlyle. A Celebration of Edna's life will be held at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Edna are suggested to The Wounded Warrior Project and will be received at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231, or online at https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
