Edna Mathis Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edna Leona Mathis, a cherished soul, who passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the age of 84. Edna was a long-time resident of Jackson County, North Carolina, where her warmth and kindness touched the lives of many.
Edna was born on Thursday, January 2, 1941. She devoted her life to her family and home, flourishing in her role as a dedicated homemaker to her family.
Edna's legacy lives on through her loving family, including a very special niece, seven children, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit and generous heart will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Burles Mathis and her parents, Garland and Winnie Watson Nicholson.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Skyland Care Center and Morningstar Assisted Living for the compassion, love, and incredible care they provided to Edna in her final years.
A service commemorating her life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled with the utmost care by Appalachian Funeral Services.
