"What a Friend We Have in Jesus" was the favorite hymn of Edna Schoessler, who now is with her "Friend" in the heavenly realms. Edna passed peacefully away into Jesus' arms on April 12, 2024, at 104+ years old. She is preceded in death by her husband (John F. Schoessler) who died in 1986, a granddaughter (Sarah Schoessler) and as you might suspect at 104 years old, many close relatives. She is survived by son, John P. Schoessler (Jane), son, James M. Schoessler (Sue), grandsons, Paul Schoessler (Kem), Thomas Schoessler (Kristi), Matthew Schoessler (Wendie) and granddaughters, Kristen McQuone (Timothy), Laura Van Riper (David), Rachael Rose (Michael). She is also survived by nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Edna was born on July 22, 1919, and grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended Cross Lutheran Grade School and was a graduate of Omaha South High School, class of 1937. After her marriage in 1941, she and her husband moved to Denver where her first son was born. When her husband was drafted into the Army, she moved back with her son to Omaha where she worked at the Glenn L. Martin Company, as a supply coordinator, that created the B-26 Marauder during WWII.
After the war, the family moved to Kent, Ohio where her second son was born. She worked at Kent State University as a librarian for 20 years. After retirement years in Pinellas Park, Florida, she moved back to Westerville, Ohio in 2006 to be with family. She became a member of Living Word Lutheran Church, Galena, Ohio, pastored by Derrick Hurst. A special Thank You to her own family and her church family, for their wonderful care of Edna in the last few years when she became physically unable to do many things.
Her faith in God, the Sovereign King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, brought her through many trials in her last days. Our family has gained over 100 years of wisdom from her. We are glad she can rest in the Peace that only Christ can provide. Please direct any memorials to Living Word Lutheran Church, 7539 Dustin Road, Galena, Ohio 43021. There will be a private internment and memorial service for family members.
