Edna Deas Wise, of Crestview, Florida, passed peacefully from this life to her Heavenly home on January 11, 2023. A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, she is now resting in the arms of her Savior.
Edna was born on April 26, 1925, in Coffeeville, Alabama, to William Chester and Eugenia (Jordan) Deas. She was a faithful member of both First Baptist Church and Woodlawn Baptist Church, where she served on various committees, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and prayerfully supported her husband as a deacon's wife.
She loved her family and is known for her delicious roast with potatoes and carrots, her one-of-a-kind cornbread dressing, and her chocolate chip cookies which were freshly baked every time anyone opened the lid of the cookie jar. She also showed her love with her prize-winning gifts of cross-stitch, which she made for each child, daughter-in-law, grandchild, most of her great-grandchildren, and many of her relatives and friends. Edna's favorite Bible scriptures were Psalm 23, Proverbs 3:5-6; and John 14: 1-21. Two of her favorite hymns were "How Great Thou Art," and "I Come to the Garden." Not only was she a wonderful homemaker, but she also enjoyed working at Crestview Mobile Homes, MR&R rucking Company, and with her husband at their business Crestview Chainsaw/Wise Equipment.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; John Wise, her loving husband of nearly 67 years; sisters Barbara (Bobbie) Deas Steele and Blanche Deas Newman; brother Lamar Deas; daughter-in-law Carol Bailey Wise; and great-granddaughter Bethany Hope von Oven.
Survivors include her sons: Pete Wise, III (Anne); Bill Wise; and Jim Wise (Lynne). Grandchildren: David Wise (Heather); Christy Wise Descoteaux (Peter); Amy Wise von Oven (Brad); Clifton Drake (Elizabeth); Laura Drake Glass (Cody); Mark Wise (Jenny); Jennifer Wise Hayes (Matt); Bethany Wise Frymire (Landon); Krista Wise Hester (Matt); and soon to have a total of 25 great-grandchildren; sister Loyce Deas Chancey; brother Ralph Deas (Sharon) and many loving nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation with the family will be Sunday, January 22, 2023, from 1:00 to 2:00, at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Crestview, Florida, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 2:00. Interment will follow at Liveoak Park Cemetery, Crestview, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edna's memory to the Woodlawn Baptist Church Building Fund, 824 North Ferdon Blvd., Crestview, Florida 32536.
The Wise family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Meg and her staff at Crescent Park Village, the rehab and nursing staff at Silvercrest Health and Rehab Center, and Emerald Coast Hospice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Guest book and condolences are available online at www.whitehurstpowellfuneralhome.com

It has been my great honor and privilege to know and love both Edna and John Wise. Edna and I, along with that beautiful soul Gladys Tolbert, taught third grade Sunday School together for almost 13 years at First Baptist. That was such a treasured, memorable and uplifting experience! I can honestly say there has not been a warmer, kinder, sweet-spirited Christian lady who has ever influenced my life as much as Edna. My two girls loved her too, ringing out in a chorus of "Edna, I´m glad I met ya!" (Just like the Aetna commercial on tv) every time they heard her name. She often gifted them cross stitch keepsakes and always remembered them at Christmas and on birthdays, keeping up with them into adulthood. While I don´t have words equal to the task of truly honoring Edna as I´d like, i can humbly say she immensely blessed me and so many others with her steadfast friendship and many loving kindnesses. We are sending up prayers for God´s grace and comfort to her beloved family.
Rest in peace dear Edna and we three thank you for truly cherished memories.
